SS Peveril (1884)
SS (RMS) ''Peveril'' (I) No. 76307 – the first vessel in the company's history to be so named – was a packet steamer which was operated by the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company until she sank off Douglas following a collision with in 1899. Construction and dimensions Constructed in 1884 by the Barrow Shipbuilding Company, Barrow-in-Furness, ''Peveril'' was launched on Thursday 24 May 1884. The Barrow Shipbuilding Company also supplied ''Peveril's'' engines and boilers. The ''Peveril'' was, like , schooner rigged. The wheelhouse was situated amidships and there was a flying bridge for the captain. Four repeating telegraphs by Chadburn were installed allowing direct communication with the engine room. Douglas Harbour ( gv, Purt Varrey Ghoolish) is located near Douglas Head at the southern end of Douglas, the capital of the Isle of Man. It is the island's main commercial shipping port. Peel, Isle Of Man
Peel ( gv, Purt ny h-Inshey – Port of the Island) is a seaside town and small fishing port in the Isle of Man, in the historic parish of German but administered separately. Peel is the third largest town in the island after Douglas and Ramsey but the fourth largest settlement, as Onchan has the second largest population but is classified as a village. Until 2016 (when it was merged with Glenfaba) Peel was also a House of Keys constituency, electing one Member of the House of Keys (MHK), who, from September 2015, was Ray Harmer. Tides are the rise and fall of sea levels caused by the combined effects of the gravity, gravitational forces exerted by the Moon (and to a much lesser extent, the Sun) and are also caused by the Earth and Moon orbiting one another. The Port of Liverpool is the enclosed Dock (maritime), dock system that runs from Brunswick Dock in Liverpool to Seaforth Dock, Seaforth, Merseyside, Seaforth, on the east side of the River Mersey and the Great Float, Birkenhead Docks between Birkenhead and Wallasey on the west side of the river. David "''Dawsey''" Kewley (1850 – 25 March 1904) was a Manx people, Manx boatman, member of the Douglas, Isle of Man, Douglas Rocket Brigade and volunteer in the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, Lifeboat Service, renowned for his involvement in the saving of lives at sea. Reports of the number of people he saved from drowning vary. According to some contemporary reports he saved as many as 38 lives, according to others 25,''Mona's Herald.''
