SS Chesapeake (AOT-5084)
The SS ''Chesapeake'' is a transport oiler that was in service with the United States Navy from 2000 to 2009. She was operated by Military Sealift Command. Construction and commercial service 1964–1987 SS ''Chesapeake'' was built by the Bethlehem Steel Sparrows Point Yard at Baltimore, Maryland, and delivered to the Hess Shipping Company on 29 October 1964. She entered commercial service with the company as the tanker SS ''Hess Voyager''. She was renamed SS ''Chesapeake'' on 22 July 1980. She is a near exact twin to her sister ship SS ''Petersburg''. Fuel oil is any of various fractions obtained from the distillation of petroleum (crude oil). Such oils include distillates (the lighter fractions) and residues (the heavier fractions). Fuel oils include heavy fuel oil, marine fuel oil (MFO), bunker fuel, furnace oil (FO), gas oil (gasoil), heating oils (such as home heating oil), diesel fuel and others.
