SS Burgondier
SS ''Burgondier'' was a 5,297-ton cargo steamship built to a First World War standard design by Caird & Company at Greenock on the Firth of Clyde. She changed owners and names several times, becoming the ''Azul'', ''David Dawson'', ''Penteli'' and finally ''Brockley Hill''. She was sunk by enemy action in 1941. Propulsion The ship had nine corrugated furnaces with a combined grate area of heating three 180 lbf/in2 single-ended boilers with a combined heating surface of . The boilers fed a Caird & Company three-cylinder triple expansion steam engine rated at 517 NHP that drove a single screw. Peacetime career Caird & Co launched the ship as ''War Burman'' but completed her in April 1919 as ''Burgondier'' for Lloyd Royal Belge (GB) Ltd, which registered her in London. In 1923 she was transferred to Compagnie Maritime Belge (Lloyd Royal) SA and registered in Antwerp, Belgium. Compagnie Maritime Belge
The Compagnie Maritime Belge (CMB) is one of the oldest Antwerp ship-owners. It is controlled by the Saverys family who also own major stakes in the Exmar and Euronav groups. History CMB was founded in 1895 under the name Compagnie Belge Maritime du Congo (CBMC). At the request of Leopold II of Belgium and with support from British investors, a maritime connection was opened with Congo Free State. On 6 February 1895 the CMBC ship ''Léopoldville'' was the first to leave port of Antwerp for Congo Free State. For sixty years the Congo boats (''Kongoboten'') were a constant presence in the port of Antwerp. In 1930 CBMC acquired ', another Belgian shipowner. The name of the new company became Compagnie Maritime Belge (CMB), and new lines were opened towards America and the Far East. The pound per square inch or, more accurately, pound-force per square inch (symbol: lbf/in2; abbreviation: psi) is a unit of pressure or of stress based on avoirdupois units. The World Ship Society (WSS) is an international society devoted to maritime and naval history. Founded in 1946 as Ship News Club in order to distribute shipping information to correspondents, the society now has thousands of members in dozens of branches across the world. Loch Ewe ( gd, Loch Iùbh) is a sea loch in the region of Wester Ross in the Northwest Highlands of Scotland.
