The Society of Saint Pius X has close links with several religious institutes, chiefly in France. The Holy See extended, on 20 November 2016, permanent canonical recognition to confessions heard by Society priests ('' Misericordia et Misera, 12'') and later, on 4 April 2017, also allowed local ordinaries to grant delegation to priests of the Society for officially witnessing marriages. Society Of Saint Pius X
The Society of Saint Pius X (SSPX) ( la, Fraternitas Sacerdotalis Sancti Pii X; FSSPX) is an international fraternity of traditionalist Catholic priests founded in 1970 by Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre, a leading traditionalist voice at the Second Vatican Council with the , and Superior General of the Holy Ghost Fathers until 1968. The society was initially established as a pious union of the Catholic Church with the permission of François Charrière, the Bishop of Lausanne, Geneva and Fribourg in Switzerland. In 2022, the society reached over 700 priestly members. The society is named after Pope Pius X, whose anti-Modernist stance the society stresses, retaining the Tridentine Mass and pre-Vatican II liturgical books in Latin for the other sacraments. The present Superior General of the society is the Reverend Davide Pagliarani, who succeeded Bishop Bernard Fellay in 2018. A religious institute is a type of institute of consecrated life in the Catholic Church whose members take religious vows and lead a life in community with fellow members. Religious institutes are one of the two types of institutes of consecrated life; the other is that of the secular institute, where its members are "living in the world". Societies of apostolic life resemble religious institutes in that its members live in community, but differ as their members do not take religious vows. The Sisters of the Society of Saint Pius X are a semi-contemplative order of religious sisters founded by Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre on September 22, 1974. The motherhouse is located in Saint-Michel-en-Brenne, France, with additional houses in Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Switzerland and the United States. As of 2018, the current Superior General is Mother Maria Jean Bréant. History The Society of Sisters was guided in its initial formation by Archbishop Lefebvre, who was formerly Superior General of the Holy Ghost Fathers, and his sister, Mother Marie Gabriel. The Fraternity of the Transfiguration is a Traditionalist Roman Catholic Order founded by Bernard Lecareux in France. The Fraternity of the Transfiguration has a close connection to the Society of Saint Pius X, specifically their French District. History In 1970, Bernard Lecareux founded the Fraternity of the Transfiguration. Between 1976 and 1977, the first vows and receptions of the habit for the Fraternity of the Transfiguration took place.
