SSM (band)
SSM are an American garage punk band from Detroit, Michigan, United States, who are signed to Alive Records and feature members of The Hentchmen, The Sights, and The Cyril Lords. Career Taking their band name from their last names, the post-punk trio, SSM, are composed of John Szymanski (vocals, Farfisa organ, synth bass organ, synthesizers, mellotron), Dave Shettler (drums, vocals, drum machine) and Marty Morris (vocals, guitar). They are known for their work with The Hentchmen, The Sights, and The Cyril Lords, respectively, before forming SSM in July, 2005. SSM wrote the bulk of their debut, ''LP1'', in one week, and recorded it in two days in Akron, OH with Dan Auerbach producing and playing slide guitar on the track, ''Dinosaur''. The group played their debut performance at the Garden Bowl in Detroit, and their second public show opening for The Black Keys in Cleveland at the Beachland Tavern outside The Beachland Ballroom. Mission Of Burma
Mission of Burma was an American post-punk band from Boston, Massachusetts. The group formed in 1979 with Roger Miller on guitar, Clint Conley on bass, Peter Prescott on drums, and Martin Swope contributing audiotape manipulation and acting as the band’s sound engineer. In this initial lineup, Miller, Conley, and Prescott all shared singing and songwriting duties. In their early years the band's recordings were all released on the small Boston-based record label Ace of Hearts. Despite their initial success in the growing independent music circuit, Mission of Burma disbanded in 1983 due to Miller's development of tinnitus caused by the loud volume of the band's live performances. The Von Bondies
The Von Bondies are an American alternative rock band formed in 1997. The original line-up formed at the 1997 Cramps/Guitar Wolf show by Jason Stollsteimer and Marcie Bolen. They went through a variety of member changes and band names, including The Baby Killers, before settling on The Von Bondies in 2000. Don Blum joined the band around 1999 after attending numerous Baby Killers shows, while Lauren Wilcox was picked via an audition. The Von Bondies got their break by playing a New Year's Eve show in Detroit, Michigan, in 2000. In attendance at the show was Long Gone John, owner of the Sympathy for the Record Industry label. This led to Sympathy releasing the band's debut album ''Lack of Communication'' in 2001. The King Khan & BBQ Show is a Canadian garage rock duo from Montreal, Quebec, Canada, who mix doo-wop and punk. The band is composed of former Spaceshits bandmates Mark Sultan and Blacksnake, alias King Khan. Mark Sultan, under the pseudonym BBQ, contributed vocals, guitar, tambourine, bass drum, and snare drum, while King Khan provides lead guitar and vocals. An entertainer named Leo Chips, formerly known as Age of Danger of the Deadly Snakes, (the SHOW in King Khan & BBQ Show) joined the group as a drummer and organist for some shows during the ''Invisible Girl'' U.S tour in 2009. Nathaniel Mayer
Nathaniel Mayer (February 10, 1944 – November 1, 2008) was an American rhythm and blues singer, who started his career in the early 1960s at Fortune Records in his birthplace of Detroit, Michigan. "Nay Dog" or "Nate," as he was also known, had a raw, highly energetic vocal style and wild stage show. After a 35-year absence from music, in 2002 Mayer began recording and touring again, releasing albums with Fat Possum, Alive Records and Norton Records. Career Mayer started his career at Fortune Records, a Detroit record label owned by Jack and Devora Brown. There he became label-mates with fellow Fortune stars Nolan Strong and Andre Williams. Black Diamond Heavies is a United States blues rock band originating from Nashville, Tennessee. Miss Alex White is the stage name for Alexandra Brooks White, an American musician from Chicago, Illinois, United States, and founder of Missile X Records born April 30, 1985.
