SSAFA Forces Help
SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, also known as the Soldiers', Sailors', and Airmen's Families Association, is a UK charity that provides trusted support to serving men and women and veterans from the British Armed Forces and their families or dependents. Anyone who is currently serving or has ever served in the Royal Navy, British Army or Royal Air Force and their families, both regulars and reserves, is eligible for their help. SSAFA’s professional staff and network of more than 3400 volunteers assist more than 66,000 people every year, from World War II veterans to the families of young servicemen and women wounded or killed in Afghanistan. Founded in 1885, SSAFA is the UK's oldest national tri-service Armed Forces charity. Major (United Kingdom)
Major (Maj) is a military rank which is used by both the British Army and Royal Marines. The rank is superior to Captain (British Army and Royal Marines), captain and subordinate to Lieutenant colonel (United Kingdom), lieutenant colonel. Fisher House UK
Fisher House UK is based in the grounds of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. With the slogan of "a home away from home for military patients and their families", the Fisher House provides a sanctuary for the families of military patients receiving treatment at the hospital. As the Queen Elizabeth Hospital is the centre for military medicine in the United Kingdom, some families have to travel hundreds of miles to be with their loved one. Facilities The house has eighteen large family bedrooms, complete with disability access, three lounges (one complete with projector screen and large DVD selection), a spacious kitchen and dining room, a children's playroom, and a spacious garden. The building follows the architectural design of similar houses in the United States of America, within the Fisher House Foundation. Royal Air Forces Association
The Royal Air Forces Association, also known as RAF Association or RAFA, is a British registered charity. It provides care and support to serving and retired members of the Air Forces of the British Commonwealth, and to their dependents. The organisation was formed in 1943, and has 504 branches in the UK, with a total membership of approximately 79,000 in the UK and abroad. It receives no funding from the UK Government and operates entirely on donations and subscription fees. Its "Wings Appeal" raises around £2 million annually. It provides five flying scholarships for members of the Air Training Corps and Girls Venture Corps Air Cadets, each year. Help For Heroes
Help for Heroes is a British charity which supports members of the British Armed Forces community with their physical and mental health, as well as their financial, social and welfare needs. The charity was founded in 2007 by Bryn and Emma Parry after they visited soldiers at Selly Oak Hospital in Birmingham. The charity now supports all veterans, serving personnel, those who have served alongside the UK military, and their families. Help for Heroes has supported more than 28,500 individuals since 2007 through its physical, psychological, financial, educational, sports, fellowship, and welfare support services. The charity's work is almost entirely funded by public donations. The Army Benevolent Fund, formerly ABF The Soldiers' Charity, is the national charity of the British Army. Since 1944, it has provided a lifetime of support to soldiers, veterans and their immediate families when they are in need. In the financial year 22/23, the charity helped 70,000 people in 45 countries worldwide, and funded 74 other charities and organisations that deliver frontline services. Fougasse (cartoonist)
Cyril Kenneth Bird CBE (17 December 1887 – 11 June 1965), known by the pen name Fougasse, was a British cartoonist. He was perhaps best known for his work in '' Punch'' magazine (of which he served as editor from 1949 to 1953) and his World War II warning propaganda posters; "Careless talk costs lives" was one of the most popular. He also designed many posters for the London Underground. Early life Bird was born in London on 17 December 1887, the son of Arthur Bird, a company director. He was educated at Cheltenham College and King's College London (B.Sc.). While at King's College he attended evening art classes at the Regent Street Polytechnic and at the School of Photo-Engraving in Bolt Court. Sir John Mills (born Lewis Ernest Watts Mills; 22 February 190823 April 2005) was an English actor who appeared in more than 120 films in a career spanning seven decades. Ronald Neame CBE, BSC (23 April 1911 – 16 June 2010) was an English film producer, director, cinematographer, and screenwriter. Beginning his career as a cinematographer, for his work on the British war film '' One of Our Aircraft Is Missing'' (1943) he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Special Effects.
