Schoberer Rad Meßtechnik
Schoberer Rad Meßtechnik (SRM), or Schoberer Rad Messtechnik, is a company which created the first cycling power meter. Formed in 1986 by Ulrich Schoberer, the firm's name literally means "Schoberer’s bike measurement technology." The SRM Powermeter uses built-in strain gauges to determine the power, in Watt The watt (symbol: W) is the unit of power or radiant flux in the International System of Units (SI), equal to 1 joule per second or 1 kg⋅m2⋅s−3. It is used to quantify the rate of energy transfer. The watt is named after James Wa ...s, that the cyclist outputs to the bicycle cranks and chainring. Switched Reluctance Motor
The switched reluctance motor (SRM) is an electric motor that runs by Magnetic reluctance, reluctance torque. Unlike common Brushed DC electric motor, brushed DC motor types, power is delivered to windings in the stator (case) rather than the Rotor (electric), rotor. This greatly simplifies mechanical design as power does not have to be delivered to a moving part which eliminates the need for a Commutator (electric), commutator, but it complicates the electrical design as some sort of switching system needs to be used to deliver power to the different windings. Electronic devices can precisely time the switching of currents, facilitating SRM configurations. Its main drawback is torque ripple. Controller technology that limits torque ripple at low speeds has been demonstrated. Sources disagree on whether it is a type of stepper motor. The same electromechanical design can be used in a generator. The load is switched to the coils in sequence to synchronize the current flow with the r ...

Certified Reference Material
Certified reference materials (CRMs) are 'controls' or standards used to check the quality and metrological traceability of products, to validate analytical measurement methods, or for the calibration of instruments. A certified reference material is a particular form of measurement standard. Reference materials are particularly important for analytical chemistry and clinical analysis. Since most analytical instrumentation is comparative, it requires a sample of known composition (reference material) for accurate calibration. These reference materials are produced under stringent manufacturing procedures and differ from laboratory reagents in their certification and the traceability of the data provided. Quality management systems involving laboratory accreditation under national and international accreditation/certification standards such as ISO/IEC 17025 require metrological traceability to Certified Reference Materials (where possible) when using reference materials for cali ...

Standard Reference Method
The Standard Reference Method or SRM is one of several systems modern brewers use to specify beer color. Determination of the SRM value involves measuring the attenuation of light of a particular wavelength (430 nm) in passing through 1 cm of the beer, expressing the attenuation as an absorption and scaling the absorption by a constant (12.7 for SRM; 25 for EBC). The SRM (or EBC) number represents a single point in the absorption spectrum of beer. As such it cannot convey full color information which would require 81 points, but it does remarkably well in this regard (it conveys 92% of spectral information) even when fruit beers are considered. Auxiliary "deviation coefficients" (see Augmented SRM below) can pick up the remainder and are necessary for fruit beers and when subtle color differences in malt beers are to be characterized. Measurement method The ASBC and EBC measurements are now identical (both done at the same wavelength and in the same size cuvette) bu ...

Specified Risk Material
Specified risk material (SRM) is any of various tissues of ruminant animals that cannot be inspected and passed for human food because scientists have determined that BSE-causing prions concentrate there. The term was referred to in the United Kingdom's ''Specified Risk Material Order 1997'' ( S.I. 1997/2964), in the United States Department of Agriculture's, and in the Canadian Food Inspection Agency's regulatory response to the first confirmed U.S. BSE case in December 2003.CRS Report for Congress: Agriculture: A Glossary of Terms, Programs, and Laws, 2005 Edition - Order Code 97-905

Selective Receptor Modulator
In the field of pharmacology, a selective receptor modulator or SRM is a type of drug that has different effects in different tissues. A SRM may behave as an agonist in some tissues while as an antagonist in others. Hence selective receptor modulators are sometimes referred to as tissue selective drugs or mixed agonists / antagonists. This tissue selective behavior is in contrast to many other drugs that behave either as agonists or antagonists regardless of the tissue in question. Note that selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM) is the only class of these drugs currently on the market in the US. Classes Classes of selective receptor modulators include: * Selective androgen receptor modulator (SARM) * Selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM) * Selective progesterone receptor modulator (SPRM) See also * Agonist–antagonist * Selective glucocorticoid receptor agonist Selective glucocorticoid receptor modulators (SEGRMs) and selective glucocorticoid receptor a ...

Selected Reaction Monitoring
Selected reaction monitoring (SRM), also called Multiple reaction monitoring, (MRM), is a method used in tandem mass spectrometry in which an ion of a particular mass is selected in the first stage of a tandem mass spectrometer and an ion product of a fragmentation reaction of the precursor ions is selected in the second mass spectrometer stage for detection. Variants A general case of SRM can be represented by :ABCD^+ \to AB + CD^+ where the precursor ion ABCD+ is selected by the first stage of mass spectrometry (MS1), dissociates into molecule AB and product ion CD+, and the latter is selected by the second stage of mass spectrometry (MS2) and detected. The precursor and product ion pair is called a SRM "transition." Consecutive reaction monitoring (CRM) is the serial application of three or more stages of mass spectrometry to SRM, represented in a simple case by :ABCD^+ \to AB + CD^+ \to C + D^+ where ABCD+ is selected by MS1, dissociates into molecule AB and ion CD+. Solar Geoengineering
Solar geoengineering, or solar radiation modification (SRM), is a type of climate engineering in which sunlight (solar radiation) would be reflected back to outer space to limit or reverse human-caused climate change. It is not a substitute for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, but would act as a temporary measure to limit warming while emissions of greenhouse gases are reduced and carbon dioxide is removed. The most studied methods of SRM are stratospheric aerosol injection and marine cloud brightening. Solar geoengineering appears able to prevent some or much of climate change temperature increases. Climate models consistently indicate that it is capable of returning global, regional, and local temperatures and precipitation closer to pre-industrial levels. Solar geoengineering's principal advantages are the speed with which it could be deployed and become active and the reversibility of its direct climatic effects, although the latter varies depending on method, with some c ...

Security & Risk Management
Security management is the identification of an organization's assets (including people, buildings, machines, systems and information assets), followed by the development, documentation, and implementation of policies and procedures for protecting assets. An organization uses such security management procedures for information classification, threat assessment, risk assessment, and risk analysis to identify threats, categorize assets, and rate system vulnerabilities. Loss prevention Loss prevention focuses on what one's critical assets are and how they are going to protect them. A key component to loss prevention is assessing the potential threats to the successful achievement of the goal. This must include the potential opportunities that further the object (why take the risk unless there's an upside?) Balance probability and impact determine and implement measures to minimize or eliminate those threats. Security risk management The management of security risks applies th ...
