Design The SPCA 80 was a single-engined high-wing cantilever monoplane with a fixed tailskid landing gear. It had a cockpit for a crew of two and a cabin for four passengers. The ''Société Provençale de Constructions Aéronautiques'' (SPCA) was a French aircraft manufacturing company, with its head office in Paris and its workshop in La Ciotat near Marseille. History Founded by Georges Philippar in 1925, SPCA began as a subsidiary venture of SPCN ( Société Provençale de Constructions Navales) shipbuilding company. Initially this aircraft builder was known particularly for its seaplanes. None of the aircraft made by SPCA was built in large numbers. The Lorraine 9N Algol was a French 9-cylinder radial aeroengine built and used in the 1930s. It was rated at up to , but more usually in the range. Design and development The Algol was a conventionally laid out radial engine, with nine cylinders in a single row. The crankcase was a barrel-shaped aluminium alloy casting, with an internal integral diaphragm which held the front crankshaft bearing. Forward of the diaphragm there was an integrally cast cam-gear case for the double track cam-ring. The reduction gear was housed under a domed casing attached to the front of the crankcase.
