SNCASE SE-1010
The SNCASE SE-1010 was a late 1940s French photo-survey aircraft designed and built by SNCASE for the Institut Géographique National, one prototype was built but it crashed and the project was cancelled. Design and development In 1945 SNCASE had designed a "stratospheric" transport for transatlantic postal work designated the SE-1000, it was not built but given a modified nose-section it was built as high-altitude photo-survey aircraft for the Institut Géographique National and designated the SE-1010. If not used as a survey aircraft it was proposed to produce it as a 14-passenger transport. The SE-1010 was a sleek-looking, four-engined, mid-wing monoplane powered by four Gnome-Rhône 14R 14-cylinder two-row air-cooled radial engine. The SNECMA 14R was a 14-cylinder two-row air-cooled radial engine developed in France just prior to the start of World War II from the Gnome-Rhône 14N. The 14N radial engine was itself an improved version of the popular pre-war Gnome-Rhône 14K ''Mistral Major'' series; designed and manufactured by Gnome et Rhône, a major French aircraft engine manufacturer whose origins pre-date the First World War. The improved 14R was initially known as the Gnome-Rhône 14P and then the Gnome-Rhône 14R. There were several improvements such as the introduction of a longer crankshaft and crankcase with a centre bearing, an increase in cylinder capacity, and a two-speed compressor. Ratier-Figeac is an aircraft components manufacturer in Figeac, France. From 1926 until 1930 it also built a car with a 746 cc overhead camshaft engine. The Junkers Jumo 213 was a World War II-era V12 engine, V-12 liquid-cooled aircraft engine, a development of Junkers Motoren's earlier design, the Junkers Jumo 211, Jumo 211. The design added two features, a pressurized cooling system that required considerably less cooling fluid which allowed the engine to be built smaller and lighter, and a number of improvements that allowed it to run at higher RPM.
