The Renault Samsung SM3 is a compact car produced by the South Korean manufacturer Renault Samsung Motors from 2003 to 2020. __TOC__ First generation (G10; 2002–2009) The first generation SM3 was a rebranded first generation Nissan Bluebird Sylphy, Nissan Sunny/Bluebird Sylphy made in South Korea by Renault Samsung Motors. Production began in September 2002 in Busan. It received a facelift in August 2005 (known as "SM3 New Generation"). It has four versions and two Straight-four engine, four-cylinder engines available: the original 1.5–litre Nissan QG engine#QG15DE, QG15DE and the 1.6–litre with CVTC system Nissan QG engine#QG16DE, QG16DE petrol, both from Nissan. The 1.6 was added in July 2004 as South Korean automobile taxation was changed; hitherto, there had been a prohibitive tax threshold at 1.5 liters. Renault Samsung Motors
Renault Korea Co., Ltd. () is a South Korean car manufacturer headquartered in Busan where its single assembly site is also located, with additional facilities at Seoul (administration), Giheung District, Giheung (research and development) and Daegu (vehicle testing). The company was first established as Samsung Motors in 1994 by the chaebol Samsung, with technical assistance from Nissan. In 2000, Samsung Motors' automobile division was sold to Renault, and Renault Samsung Motors was launched. The previous Samsung Motors was liquidated as a paper company. as trade name in March 2022 and as its legal name in August. In December 2022, Geely acquired a minority ownership in the company through capital increase as part of wider partnership agreement with Renault, although it still is a consolidated subsidiary of the latter.
