Sport Lisboa e Benfica (), commonly known as Benfica, is a professional handball team based in Lisbon, Portugal. Benfica play in the top tier domestic league, Andebol 1, and hold home matches at the Pavilhão da Luz Nº 2. Since its inception in 1932, Benfica have won 7 Portuguese League titles, 6 Portuguese Cups, 2 Portuguese League Cups, and 7 Portuguese Super Cups. Internationally, Benfica won the EHF European League in 2021–22, becoming the first Portuguese club to win the competition. Pavilhão Da Luz Nº 2
The Pavilhão da Luz Nº 2 is the second indoor arena, arena (or pavilion) of Portuguese multi-sport club S.L. Benfica. About It has a full capacity of 1,800 seats and is mainly used by the S.L. Benfica (handball), handball and S.L. Benfica (volleyball), volleyball departments of the club. Its construction ran at the same time as the adjacent arena, Pavilhão Fidelidade, but it was finished just a couple weeks later. Because the old Pavilhão da Luz was at full capacity with five sports, Benfica planned the new Estádio da Luz with two indoor arenas; the smaller one only hosting two departments. Team Handball
Handball (also known as team handball, European handball or Olympic handball) is a team sport in which two teams of seven players each (six outcourt players and a goalkeeper) pass a ball using their hands with the aim of throwing it into the goal of the other team. A standard match consists of two periods of 30 minutes, and the team that scores more goals wins. Modern handball is played on a court of , with a goal in the middle of each end. The goals are surrounded by a zone where only the defending goalkeeper is allowed; goals must be scored by throwing the ball from outside the zone or while "diving" into it. Rokometni klub Koper ( en, Koper Handball Club), commonly referred to as RK Koper or simply Koper, was a handball club from Koper, Slovenia. Koper played their home matches at Bonifika Hall. The team was dissolved in 2013 due to high financial debt. The team was also known as Cimos Koper due to sponsorship reasons. In 2013, a new club, named RD Koper 2013, was established. History Handball was played in Koper since the 1950s. Initially under TVD Partizan and later as RK Koper, for a while there were even two handball clubs in the town. In 2002, due to disputes with the Portuguese League Association, the Federation refused to consider the League Champion as National Champion. So, the Portuguese Handball Federation reformulated the competitions, creating Divisão de Elite and considering is champion, National Champion, although being the second handball league in Portugal. João António de Araújo Vale e Azevedo (born 17 May 1957) is a Portuguese former lawyer who was the 31st president of sports club S.L. Benfica. In relation to his three-year club presidency, he was convicted of embezzlement, document forgery, breach of trust, and money laundering.
