SL-Class
The Mercedes-Benz SL-Class (marketed as Mercedes-AMG SL since 2022) is a grand touring sports car manufactured by Mercedes-Benz since 1954. The designation ''SL'' derives from the German ''Sport-Leicht'' (English: Sport Light). Initially, the first 300 SL was a racing sports car built in 1952 with no intention of developing a street version. In 1954, an American importer Max Hoffman suggested the street version of 300 SL for the wealthy performance car enthusiasts in the United States where the market for the personal luxury car was booming after the Second World War. Abbreviation of SL Whether the abbreviation ''SL'' was derived from a 1931 Mercedes-Benz SSKL (Super Sport Kurz Leicht—Super Sport Short Light) isn't known. Mercedes-AMG SL-Class (R232)
The Mercedes-AMG SL (model code R232) is the seventh-generation of the Mercedes-Benz SL-Class roadster, replacing the R231 model. Marketed under Mercedes-AMG branding, it was presented on 28 October 2021, following the preview of interior on 14 July 2021. The R232 is no longer sold under Mercedes-Benz as it has become exclusive to Mercedes-AMG and a direct replacement for the GT Roadster. Specifications The R232 represents several departures from the previous SL-Class predecessors. Switching from a folding metal roof and heavy hydraulic system, as featured in the previous R230 and R231 generations, to a fabric-lined roof and electric motors saves and lower the center of gravity for improved handling. Rudolf Uhlenhaut (15 July 1906 – 8 May 1989) was a British-German engineer, driving engineer for Mercedes-Benz, and the father of Mercedes-Benz 300 SL and 300 SLR. He had a long association with the Mercedes-Benz racing programme of the 1930s and 1950s, and is best known for his road legal '' Uhlenhaut Coupé'' version of the 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SLR race car. Early life Uhlenhaut was born in London, the second of four children, on 15 July 1906, during his German-born father Max Uhlenhaut's term as head of the London branch of the Deutsche Bank. His mother, Hilda Brice, was English. He attended the Tollington School in Muswell Hill. At the outbreak of World War I in 1914 the family moved to Brussels, and later to Bremen.
