International Financial Reporting Standards
International Financial Reporting Standards, commonly called IFRS, are accounting standards issued by the IFRS Foundation and the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB). They constitute a standardised way of describing the company's financial performance and position so that company financial statements are understandable and comparable across international boundaries. They are particularly relevant for companies with shares or securities listed on a public stock exchange. IFRS have replaced many different national accounting standards around the world but have not replaced the separate accounting standards in the United States where U.S. GAAP is applied. History The International Accounting Standards Committee (IASC) was established in June 1973 by accountancy bodies representing ten countries. It devised and published International Accounting Standards (IAS), interpretations and a conceptual framework. These were looked to by many national accounting standard-set ...

Self-interference Cancellation
Self-interference cancellation (SIC) is a signal processing technique that enables a radio transceiver to simultaneously transmit and receive on a single channel, a pair of partially-overlapping channels, or any pair of channels in the same frequency band. When used to allow simultaneous transmission and reception on the same frequency, sometimes referred to as “in-band full-duplex” or “simultaneous transmit and receive,” SIC effectively doubles spectral efficiency. SIC also enables devices and platforms containing two radios that use the same frequency band to operate both radios simultaneously. Self-interference cancellation has applications in mobile networks, the unlicensed bands, cable TV, mesh networks, the military, and public safety. In-band full-duplex has advantages over conventional duplexing schemes. A frequency division duplexing (FDD) system transmits and receives at the same time by using two (usually widely separated) channels in the same frequency band. In- ...

Sistema Interconectado Central
The Sistema Interconectado Central (Spanish for ''Central Interconnected System'') or SIC was the main alternating current power grid in Chile spanning all of Chile from Atacama Region in the north to Los Lagos Region in the south. SIC transmitted 68.5% of the national generation and served 93% of Chile's population. As of December, 2011, it had a total installed capacity of 12,904 MW (gross) Since 2017, the grid was joined and synchronized with the Northern Synchronized Grid (Sistema Interconectado del Norte Grande Spanish) and the total installed capacity of the new grid, called Sistema Eléctrico Nacional (SEN) (Spanish Spanish might refer to: * Items from or related to Spain: **Spaniards are a nation and ethnic group indigenous to Spain **Spanish language, spoken in Spain and many Latin American countries **Spanish cuisine Other places * Spanish, Ontario, Cana ... for ''National Electrical System''), was 31,709 MW as of April 2022.

Landmark Detection
In computer science, landmark detection is the process of finding significant landmarks in an image. This originally referred to finding landmarks for navigational purposes – for instance, in robot vision or creating maps from satellite images. Methods used in navigation have been extended to other fields, notably in facial recognition where it is used to identify key points on a face. It also has important applications in medicine, identifying anatomical landmarks in medical images. Applications Navigation Facial landmarks Finding facial landmarks is an important step in facial identification of people in an image. Facial landmarks can also be used to extract information about mood and intention of the person. Methods used fall in to three categories: holistic methods, constrained local model methods, and regression-based methods. Holistic methods are pre-progammed with statistical information on face shape and landmark location coefficients. The classic holisti ...

Simplified Instructional Computer
The Simplified Instructional Computer (abbreviated SIC) is a hypothetical computer system introduced in ''System Software: An Introduction to Systems Programming'', by Leland Beck. Due to the fact that most modern microprocessors include subtle, complex functions for the purposes of efficiency, it can be difficult to learn systems programming using a real-world system. The Simplified Instructional Computer solves this by abstracting away these complex behaviors in favor of an architecture that is clear and accessible for those wanting to learn systems programming. SIC Architecture The SIC machine has basic addressing, storing most memory addresses in hexadecimal integer format. Similar to most modern computing systems, the SIC architecture stores all data in binary and uses the two's complement to represent negative values at the machine level. Memory storage in SIC consists of 8-bit bytes, and all memory addresses in SIC are byte addresses. Any three consecutive bytes form a 24 ...

Silicon Carbide
Silicon carbide (SiC), also known as carborundum (), is a hard chemical compound containing silicon and carbon. A semiconductor, it occurs in nature as the extremely rare mineral moissanite, but has been mass-produced as a powder and crystal since 1893 for use as an abrasive. Grains of silicon carbide can be bonded together by sintering to form very hard ceramics that are widely used in applications requiring high endurance, such as car brakes, car clutches and ceramic plates in bulletproof vests. Large single crystals of silicon carbide can be grown by the Lely method and they can be cut into gems known as synthetic moissanite. Electronic applications of silicon carbide such as light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and Cat's whisker detector, detectors in early radios were first demonstrated around 1907. SiC is used in semiconductor electronics devices that operate at high temperatures or high voltages, or both. Natural occurrence Naturally occurring moissanite is found in only minut ...

Block Cipher Modes Of Operation
In cryptography, a block cipher mode of operation is an algorithm that uses a block cipher to provide information security such as confidentiality or authenticity. A block cipher by itself is only suitable for the secure cryptographic transformation (encryption or decryption) of one fixed-length group of bits called a block. A mode of operation describes how to repeatedly apply a cipher's single-block operation to securely transform amounts of data larger than a block. Most modes require a unique binary sequence, often called an initialization vector (IV), for each encryption operation. The IV has to be non-repeating and, for some modes, random as well. The initialization vector is used to ensure distinct ciphertexts are produced even when the same plaintext is encrypted multiple times independently with the same key. Block ciphers may be capable of operating on more than one block size, but during transformation the block size is always fixed. Block cipher modes operate on ...

Security Insurance Company
Security Insurance Company (SIC) was a security and insurance company in Bulgaria. Thought to be a front for a criminal organisation. SIC, along with its rival VIS, was made up primarily of ex-wrestlers, policemen and members of the security apparatus. As well as extortion rackets, the groups also worked in "car insurance" and theft. The capital they earned in the emerging Bulgarian economy of the 1990s allowed them to build huge influence amongst the government.Glenny, Misha; McMafia; 2008 See also *VIS (criminal organisation) *Bulgarian Mafia The Bulgarian mafia ( bg, мафия) is a series of organized crime elements originating from Bulgaria. Scottish Independence Convention
The Scottish Independence Convention (SIC) is a cross-party, non-partisan group with the aim of bringing together pro-independence parties, groups and organisations to promote the concept and ideals of an independent Scotland. The current conveners are Iain Black and Maggie Chapman (ex- co-convener of the Scottish Green Party) . The SIC was created in 2005 as a forum for those of all political persuasions and none who support independence, and to be a national catalyst for Scottish independence. With the election of the SNP in 2007, the SIC was largely on hiatus, with more informal meetings being held between pro-independence forces instead of being through SIC channels. Constitution The Convention agreed a new constitution in February 2017 to establish its purpose, aims and aspirations; * To provide a forum which will bring together different groups and parties which support independence * To provide a contact point for people (including media) who are interested in independ ...
