SHMIS
The Society of Heads, formerly the Society of Headmasters & Headmistresses of Independent Schools (SHHIS), or "S of H", is an association of Headmasters and Headmistresses of various types of independent schools in the United Kingdom, and was formed in 1961. Members include heads of single-sex and co-educational day and boarding secondary schools, specialist music, dance, and performing arts schools, and special schools for children with learning difficulties. The association's headquarters are in Market Harborough, in Leicestershire, England. Members of the Society usually have membership of the Association of School and College Leaders, with their schools usually having membership of the Association of Governing Bodies of Independent Schools. Cokethorpe School
Cokethorpe School is an independent day school in Hardwick, West Oxfordshire, about south of Witney. It was founded in 1957 by Francis Brown. It is a member of HMC, IAPS, and The Society of Heads (formerly known as SHMIS). The school has approximately 660 students ranging in age from 4 to 18. The Prep School and the Senior School are on the same site. At the heart of the school is an early 18th-century Grade II* listed Queen Anne style country house. The school is set in of parkland, and there is also a chapel in the grounds. The tower of the chapel was virtually destroyed in a fire in 1994, but it has since been demolished and rebuilt. The grounds have a number of rugby/football pitches along with the recently built astro pitches. An expertly carved 'giant' peacock stands at the central crossroads within the school grounds, a symbol of the school. In the United Kingdom, independent schools () are fee-charging schools, some endowed and governed by a board of governors and some in private ownership. They are independent of many of the regulations and conditions that apply to state-funded schools. For example, pupils do not have to follow the National Curriculum, although, some schools do. Austin Friars
Austin Friars is a coeducational independent day school located in Carlisle, England. The Senior School provides secondary education for 350 boys and girls aged 11–18. Newcastle School for Boys, or NSB, is an independent school for boys aged 3–18 in Gosforth, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England. Longridge Towers School
Longridge Towers School is a non-selective co-educational independent day and boarding school in the parish of Horncliffe (formerly Longridge) near Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland, England, for children between the ages of three and eighteen. Clifton High School is a co-educational independent school in Clifton, Bristol, England. The school is the only one in the region to operate the Diamond Edge model of education.
