SGS Berkeley Green UTC
SGS Berkeley Green UTC is a university technical college in Berkeley, Gloucestershire, England. It opened in September 2017, and is part of SGS Academy Trust (South Gloucestershire and Stroud Academy Trust). It specialises in engineering, cybersecurity and Digital technologies in education, digital technologies, as well as STEM more broadly. The UTC's sponsors include the University of Gloucestershire, Microsoft, Cisco, CGI Inc., CGI, GCHQ, the National Cyber Security Centre (United Kingdom), NCSC, and South Gloucestershire and Stroud College, SGS College. The college was formally opened by Anne, Princess Royal, Princess Anne on 5 February 2019. From March 2019 to May 2021, the UTC was the home of the Bloodhound LSR (land speed record) project. The vehicle was then moved to the Coventry Transport Museum, due to lack of funding for further development. A university technical college (UTC) is a type of specialist secondary school in England that is led by a sponsor university and has close ties to local business and industry. These university and industry partners support the curriculum development of the UTC, can provide professional development opportunities for teachers, and guide suitably qualified students on to industrial apprenticeships or tertiary education. The sponsor university appoints the majority of the UTC's governors and key members of staff. Pupils transfer to a UTC at the age of 14, part-way through their secondary education. Coventry Transport Museum (formerly known as the Museum of British Road Transport) is a transport museum, located in Coventry city centre, England. It houses the largest collection of British-made road transport held in public ownership. It is located in Coventry because the city was previously the centre of the British car industry. There are more than 240 cars and commercial vehicles, 100 motorcycles, 200 bicycles. ''Bloodhound LSR'', formerly ''Bloodhound SSC'', is a British land vehicle designed to travel at supersonic speeds with the intention of setting a new world land speed record. The arrow-shaped car, under development since 2008, is powered by a jet engine and will be fitted with an additional rocket engine.
