Service Employees International Union, Local 32BJ (often shortened to SEIU 32BJ, 32BJ SEIU or just 32BJ), is a branch of Service Employees International Union headquartered in New York City which mainly represents building workers (maintenance, custodial, janitorial, window cleaners) and has about 150,000 members in ten northeastern states, Washington, D.C., Florida and other parts of the United States Composition According to SEIU 32BJ's Department of Labor records since 2005, when membership classifications were first reported, around a quarter of the union's membership are considered part time. The International Brotherhood of Stationary Firemen (IBSF) was an American trade union established in 1898 and affiliated with the American Federation of Labor (AF of L). The union was established as a mechanism for advancing the collective interests of workers engaged in the operation of steam boilers. Originally limited to stationary firemen, in 1919 the AF of L expanded the organization's jurisdictional mandate to oilers and boiler room helpers, and the name was changed to International Brotherhood of Stationary Firemen and Oilers (IBSFO). Héctor Figueroa (April 3, 1962 – July 11, 2019) was an international Labor Union, labor movement leader. He was president of the Local 32BJ, SEIU, Local 32BJ of the Service Employees International Union. Early life and education Figueroa was born on April 3, 1962, to Luis and Castita, both educators, in Ponce, Puerto Rico. He attended the University of Puerto Rico for some time until student protests about College tuition in the United States, tuition increases upset the campus. Then, he moved to Bronx, New York, with his aunt in 1982. He received his bachelor's degree in economics from New York University. Gus Bevona
Gus Bevona (October 20, 1940 – September 21, 2010) was an American labor leader who served starting in 1981 as head of Local 32B-32J of the Service Employees International Union, who helped his local's elevator operators and janitors who work in New York City commercial and residential buildings some of the best paid in the country. Bevona was chosen by Richard Cordtz as his running mate in the 1996 election for SEIU president, but Cordtz withdrew after Andy Stern entered the race and Bevona ended his candidacy for secretary-treasurer shortly thereafter.
