SCCA RaceTruck Challenge
The SCCA RaceTruck Challenge is a former pickup truck racing series ran by SCCA Pro Racing between 1987 and 1991. The series utilizes pickup trucks on road course circuits. History The SCCA RaceTruck Challenge started in 1987 with a nine race schedule across North-America. The first ever SCCA RaceTruck Challenge race was contested at Sears Point International Raceway on 25 April 1987. Max Jones won the inaugural race driving a Nissan. Saleen entered the series with their Ford Ranger badgeSaleen Sport Truck The Ford Ranger captured two wins. Pete Halsmer won at Memphis International Raceway while Steve Saleen won at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Eventually nine Saleen Sport Trucks were built for competition. Pickup Truck Racing
Pickup truck racing is a form of auto racing which involves modified versions of pickup trucks on Race track, racing circuits, mostly Oval track racing, oval tracks. Race pickup trucks are mechanically similar to coupé-shaped Stock car racing, stock cars, with the main difference being the more boxy shape of the cab, which does not have as good aerodynamics as stock cars. NASCAR Truck Series vehicles have been rapidly evolving since the inception of the series in 1995, in terms of speed, aerodynamics, and engine equipment. Champ Car
Champ Car World Series (CCWS) was the series sanctioned by Open-Wheel Racing Series Inc., or Champ Car, a sanctioning body for American open-wheel car racing that operated from 2004 to 2008. It was the successor to Championship Auto Racing Teams (CART), which sanctioned the 'PPG Indy Car World Series from 1979 until dissolving after the 2003 season. Vehicles Champ Cars were single-seat, open-wheel racing cars, with mid-mounted engines. Champ cars had sculpted undersides to create ground effect and prominent wings to create downforce. The cars would use a different aerodynamic kit on the occasions they raced on an oval. The Trans-Am Series is a sports car racing series held in North America. Founded in 1966, it is sanctioned by the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA). Primarily based in the United States, the series competes on a variety of track types including road courses and street circuits. Trans-Am is split into the TA and TA2 classes for silhouette racing cars, while its production classes are the GT (grand touring), SGT (super grand touring), and XGT (extreme grand touring). Tommy Archer
Tommy Archer (born November 16, 1954) is an American professional racing driver. He has competed in International Motor Sports Association, Sports Car Club of America, Trans-Am Series, 24 Hours of Le Mans and National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing events. Racing career Archer started his racing career in ice racing, running Porsches borrowed from his father's car dealership. He later attempted the SCCA Runoffs, finishing second in 1980. Along with his brother Bobby, Archer won an IMSA championship in 1984. The duo also ran road races with Porsche Le Car entries throughout the 1980s. In 1986, they won the SCCA drivers' championship. Late in the 1980s, Archer also drove Jeeps in the SCCA truck series. In 1987, Archer qualified fastest in the GTO class of the 24 Hours of Daytona. Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course is a road course auto racing facility located in Troy Township, Morrow County, Ohio, United States, just outside the village of Lexington. Mid-Ohio has also colloquially become a term for the entire north-central region of the state, from south of Sandusky to the north of Columbus. Memphis International Raceway (formerly known as Memphis Motorsports Park) was an auto racing park located near the Loosahatchie River in Shelby County, Tennessee, United States, just approximately ten miles south of Millington, and a few miles north of the city of Memphis. Pete Halsmer
John Peter Halsmer (born March 3, 1944, in Lafayette, Indiana), is a former driver in the CART Championship Car series. He raced in 5 seasons (1980, 1982–1985), with 33 career starts, and started in the Indianapolis 500 in 1981–1982. He finished in the top five three times in the CART series, with his best finish in 2nd position in 1983 at Cleveland. In 1992, Halsmer raced in the IROC series, representing IMSA. Pete drove for Ford/Roush (NASCAR owner Jack Roush) from 1986 through 1989 and won six Trans Am races and four GTO races winning the 1989 GTO championship. The nameplate has been used for distinct model lines of vehicles worldwide since 1982 from the compact and mid-size pickup category.
