SAO Eastern Herzegovina
The SAO of Herzegovina ( sr, Српска аутономна област Херцеговина, ) was a self-proclaimed Serbian Autonomous Oblast within today's Bosnia and Herzegovina. It was proclaimed by the Assembly of the Association of Municipalities of Bosnian Krajina in 1991 and was subsequently included into Republika Srpska. SAO Herzegovina was located in the geographical region of Herzegovina. It was also known as SAO Eastern Herzegovina (SAO Istočna Hercegovina'' / ''САО Источна Херцеговина History SAO Herzegovina was formed from the Association of Municipalities (a government in SFRY) known as ''Assembly of the Communities of East Herzegovina'', which was formed on 27 May 1991. East Herzegovina
East Herzegovina ( sh-Latn-Cyrl, Istočna Hercegovina, Источна Херцеговина) is the eastern part of the historical Herzegovina region in Bosnia and Herzegovina, east of the Neretva river, part of the Republika Srpska entity. Major towns are Trebinje, Nevesinje and Bileća, predominantly inhabited by ethnic Serbs (see Serbs of Bosnia and Herzegovina). West Herzegovina is the western part, west of the Neretva river, and is today administratively part of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton and West Herzegovina Canton, predominantly inhabited by ethnic Croats, located in the Federation of B&H entity. Republika Srpska ( sr-Cyrl, Република Српска, lit=Serb Republic, also known as Republic of Srpska, ) is one of the two entities of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the other being the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is located in the north and east of the country. Its largest city and administrative centre is Banja Luka, lying on the Vrbas river. The Serbian Autonomous Oblast of Bosanska Krajina ( sr, Српска aутономна област Босанска Крајина, Srpska autonomna oblast Bosanska Krajina) was a self-proclaimed Serbian Autonomous Oblast within today's Bosnia and Herzegovina. SAO North-East Bosnia ( sr, САО Североисточна Босна / ''SAO Severoistočna Bosna'') was a Serb Autonomous Region ( sr, САО / ''SAO''), a Serb break-away province, in the Yugoslav republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina (SR BiH). The SAO of Romanija ( sr, САО Романија/SAO Romanija) was a self-proclaimed ethnic Serb autonomous region within SR Bosnia and Herzegovina in the prelude to the Bosnian War. The Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, commonly referred to as SFR Yugoslavia or simply as Yugoslavia, was a country in Central and Southeast Europe. Herzegovina
