SABA Women's Championship
The SABA Women's Championship is a basketball tournament for women's national teams organized by the South Asia Basketball Association, a sub-zone of the FIBA Asia. Following the disappointment of not able to play basketball at the 2016 South Asian Games, the newly created tournament marks the beginning of another step in basketball development for South Asia region. South Asia Basketball Association
South is one of the cardinal directions or compass points. The direction is the opposite of north and is perpendicular to both east and west. Basketball

2016 South Asian Games
The 2016 South Asian Games, officially the XII South Asian Games, is a major multi-sport event which took place from 5 February to 16 February 2016 in Guwahati and Shillong, India. A total of 2,672 athletes competed in 226 events over 22 sports. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 2016 South Asian Games in Guwahati on 5 February 2016. India continued its dominance in the game's medal tally with a staggering 308 medals including 188 gold medals. Host selection The games were originally scheduled to be held in 2012 in Kathmandu, but were postponed to Delhi for 2013 but again, were postponed to late 2015 because of the suspension of the Indian Olympic Association. 2016 SABA Women's Championship
The 2016 SABA Women's Championship was the 1st SABA Women's Championship. The tournament was held from 29 March to 2 April in Kathmandu, Nepal. Five (5) teams are reported to join the women's maiden tournament for SABA subzone, one of FIBA Asia's subzone. India, Pakistan and Afghanistan were reportedly not seeing action in the five-day competition. Sri Lanka won their first ever subzone championship by thrashing hosts Nepal in the final game, 75–49. Maldives scored their second successive international win against Bhutan in the penultimate day of the tournament, 69–46, to bag the bronze medal. Malé
Malé (, ; dv, މާލެ) is the capital and most populous city of the Maldives. With a population of 252,768 and an area of , it is also one of the most densely populated cities in the world. The SABA Championship is a basketball tournament for national teams organized by the South Asia Basketball Association, a sub-zone of the FIBA Asia. It serves as a qualifier for various FIBA Asia events such as the FIBA Asia Championship and the FIBA Asia Cup. Starting immediately at the end of the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup, a new qualification format for 2021 FIBA Asia Cup, and for every continental championships thereafter, has been introduced, wherein home and away games will be done during the pre-qualifiers in order to determine the participants for the main qualifiers that will battle for the 16 berths of the continental championships. SAFF Women's Championship
The SAFF Women's Championship, also called the ''South Asian Football Federation Women's Cup'', is the main association football competition of the women's national football teams, governed by the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF). All seven members are eligible to participate in this tournament. History The current SAFF members are Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Formerly, eight members used to compete, prior to the departure of Afghanistan from SAFF. It is held every two years. India won first 5 edition so far, beating Nepal four times and Bangladesh once in the final. Bangladesh is the current champion having defeated Nepal by 3–1 goals on 19 September 2022 in the final.
