The S55 was a former regional railway service of the S-Bahn Zürich in Switzerland on the Zürcher Verkehrsverbund (ZVV), Zürich transportation network. Until timetable change in late 2015, the S55 linked Niederweningen and Oberglatt Oberglatt is a municipality in the district of Dielsdorf in the canton of Zürich in Switzerland, and belongs to the Glatt Valley (german: Glatttal). S-Bahn Zürich
The S-Bahn is the name of hybrid urban- suburban rail systems serving a metropolitan region in German-speaking countries. Some of the larger S-Bahn systems provide service similar to rapid transit systems, while smaller ones often resemble commuter or even regional rail. The term derives from ''Schnellbahn'', ''Stadtbahn'' or ''Stadtschnellbahn''. Similar systems in Switzerland are known as S-Bahn as well. Zürcher Verkehrsverbund
The ZVV (German abbreviation for Zürcher Verkehrsverbund, translated into English as Zürich Transport Network or Zürich Traffic Network) is a public transportation system. It combines rail, bus, tram, trolleybus, lake boat, cable car and other services in the Swiss canton of Zürich (and including Rapperswil-Jona (SG), Pfäffikon SZ and spots outside of the canton) integrating them into a single fare network with coordinated timetables. Fares are based on the number of zones crossed during a specified time and are independent of the mode of transport or the number of connections. Niederweningen
Niederweningen is a municipality in the district of Dielsdorf in the canton of Zürich in Switzerland. History Niederweningen is first mentioned between 1096 and 1111 as ''Waningen''. In 1269 it was mentioned as ''Nidirunweningin''. The railway reached Niederweningen in 1891 with the opening of the Swiss Northeastern Railway's Wehntal line. The line was extended by a further to its current terminus in 1938. In 1890 the most important site of Ice Age animals in Switzerland was discovered in Niederweningen.
