S4 (classification)
S4, SB3, SM4 are disability swimming classifications used for categorising swimmers based on their level of disability. Swimmers in this class have coordination problems affecting all four of their limbs, or have movement in their arms but no trunk or leg function. They also generally have weakness in their hands and arms. A variety of disabilities are represented by this class including people with quadriplegia from spinal cord injury or similar. Events this class can participate in include 50m and 100m Freestyle, 200m Freestyle, 50m Backstroke, 50m Butterfly, 50m Breaststroke, and 150m Individual Medley events. The class competes at the Paralympic Games. Sport This classification is for swimming. In the classification title, S represents Freestyle, Backstroke and Butterfly strokes. SB means breaststroke. Aimee Bruder (born August 3, 1974 in Cincinnati, Ohio) is an American Paralympic swimmer. She won three bronze medals at 1996 Summer Paralympics for 100 m, 200 m and 4x50 freestyle swimming. Tanja Scholz (born 29 June 1984) is a German Paralympic swimmer, who won three gold medals at the 2022 World Para Swimming Championships. Personal life Scholz is from Elmshorn, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. She has three children. Scholz was diagnosed with paraplegia after a horse riding accident in June 2020, and has been wheelchair bound since. At the time, she was told that she would not be able to swim due to the extent of her injuries.
