The Berlin S-Bahn () is a rapid transit railway system in and around Berlin, the capital city of Germany. It has been in operation under this name since December 1930, having been previously called the special tariff area ''Berliner Stadt-, Ring- und Vorortbahnen'' (Berlin city, orbital, and suburban railways). It complements the Berlin U-Bahn and is the link to many outer-Berlin areas, such as Berlin Brandenburg Airport. The S-Bahn Berlin GmbH is the operator of the Berlin S-Bahn. The company was founded on 1 January 1995 as a wholly owned subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn. Background At the turn of the year 1993/1994 the Deutsche Reichsbahn and the Deutsche Bundesbahn merged to form the Deutsche Bahn AG. DBAG Class 481
The DBAG Class 481/482 is an electric multiple unit train for the Berlin S-Bahn. The class 481 was designed to replace the aging rail cars after the German reunification in 1990. The first mock-up models were presented in 1993 with the first rollout on 22 January 1996. History In 1990 most of the rail cars were still composed of mostly Class 475, 476 and 477 vehicles from before World War II. The average age was about 40 years at the time. Both the West Berlin and East Berlin S-Bahn operators had already started to replace their aging fleet with Class 480 (West) and Class 485 (East). The German reunification prompted a unification of the operators leading also to a requirement of a common operation scheme for the whole of Berlin. Blankenfelde Station
Blankenfelde station is on the Berlin–Dresden railway in the locality of Blankenfelde in the municipality of Blankenfelde-Mahlow in the district of Teltow-Fläming in the German state of Brandenburg. The station consists of two sections that are structurally separate from each other. One section is located just south of the Karl-Marx-Straße level crossing and consists of an island platform for regional and long-distance services. Berlin Brandenburger Tor (in German ''Bahnhof Berlin Brandenburger Tor'') – formerly Berlin Unter den Linden (1936-2009) – is an underground railway station in the central Mitte district of Berlin, Germany, located on the Unter den Linden boulevard near Hotel Adlon, Pariser Platz and Brandenburg Gate. Berlin Anhalter Bahnhof
The Anhalter Bahnhof is a former railway terminus in Berlin, Germany, approximately southeast of Potsdamer Platz. Once one of Berlin's most important railway stations, it was severely damaged in World War II, and finally closed for traffic in 1952, when the GDR-owned ''Deutsche Reichsbahn'' rerouted all railway traffic between Berlin and places in the GDR avoiding the West Berlin area.
