S10 (classification)
S10, SB9, SM10 are Paralympic sports#Classification, disability swimming classifications used for categorizing swimmers based on their level of disability. Swimmers in this class tend to have minimal weakness affecting their legs, missing feet, a missing leg below the knee or problems with their hips. This class includes a number of different disabilities including people with amputations and cerebral palsy. The classification is governed by the International Paralympic Committee, and competes at the Paralympic Games. Definition This classification is for swimming (sport), swimming. In the classification title, S represents Freestyle, Backstroke and Butterfly strokes. SB means breaststroke. SM means individual medley. Para-swimming Classification
Para-swimming classification is a function-based classification system designed to allow for fair competition in disability swimming. The classes are prefixed with "S" for freestyle, butterfly and backstroke events, "SB" for breaststroke and "SM" for individual medley events. Swimmers with physical disabilities are divided into ten classes based on their degree of functional disability: S1, S2, S3, S4, S5, S6, S7, S8, S9 and S10. The lower number indicates a greater degree of impairment. Those with visual impairments are placed in three additional classes: S11, S12 and S13. One more class, S14, is reserved for swimmers with intellectual impairment. A final class, S15, is for athletes with hearing loss. Swimming At The 2008 Summer Paralympics
The swimming events of the 2008 Summer Paralympics were held in the Beijing National Aquatics Center between September 7 and September 15, 2008. A total of 140 gold medals were expected to be distributed. Paralympic records were broken in 122 events, of which the records in 108 events were also world records. Classifications Athletes are allocated a classification for each event based upon their disability to allow fairer competition between athletes of similar ability. Michael Anderson (swimmer)
Michael Anderson, (born 12 July 1987) is an Australian Paralympic swimmer who has won gold, silver and bronze medals at the three Paralympics from 2008 to 2016. Personal Anderson has nerve damage to his leg caused by meningitis and a hearing impairment. He was born and grew up in Bellingen in the Northern Rivers. He moved to the Gold Coast to study for a Bachelor of Sport Management degree at Griffith University. Career Anderson made his international debut at the 2005 Deaflympics in Melbourne where he finished sixth in the 50m backstroke. At the 2006 IPC Swimming World Championships in Durban, South Africa Anderson won a silver medal in the Men's 100 m Backstroke S10 event. Robert Welbourn
Robert Welbourn (born 11 June 1987) is a British Paralympian swimmer. He was born in Chesterfield. He began his swimming career at Deeping Swimming Club in Deeping St. James. At both the 2004 and 2008 Summer Paralympics he won gold medals in the 4x100 metre freestyle relay (34 points) and silver medals in the 400 metre freestyle (S10) events. Aurélie Rivard
Aurélie Rivard (born May 14, 1996) is a Canadian swimmer. (search for "Rivard") After winning three Paralympics gold medals, claiming a silver Paralympic medal and setting two World Records and a Paralympic Record at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, the Paraswimmer was named Canada's flag-bearer for the closing ceremony. She competed at the 2020 Summer Paralympics, winning a bronze medal. Career A Quebecer, she is from Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, where she trained at the Club de natation du Haut-Richelieu. In 2017 she moved to Montreal and began training with Canada's High Performance Center.
