Ryvita Company
The Ryvita Company was established in 1925 by John Edwin Garratt, with a bakery set up in Birmingham two years later, producing one of the first packaged goods in the bakery field. After the Second World War, Poole on the South Coast of England was selected as a desirable site for production due to its nearby port. Ryvita is a rye-based crispbread manufactured by the Ryvita Company. In 1949, Garfield Weston bought the Ryvita Company and began a close personal involvement with the parent company, Associated British Foods (ABF). A new mill was opened by Bernard Montgomery, 1st Viscount Montgomery of Alamein in 1968. Jordans is a British manufacturer of breakfast cereals and cereal bars founded in 1855. It is based at Biggleswade in Bedfordshire, England. History Holme Mills is on Langford Road in Biggleswade, situated next to the River Ivel. A mill was recorded on the site in 1086, as noted in the Domesday Book. It was bought by local farmer William Herbert Jordan in 1855. The mill caught fire in 1894 and burnt down again in 1899. It produced flour until 1972 when W. Jordan (Cereals) Ltd was formed. Ry-Krisp
Ry-Krisp is an American brand of rye crisp bread that was introduced in 1899. Based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the Ry-Krisp plant was purchased by Ralston Purina in 1926. In 1994, the Ralston portion of Ralston Purina was spun off into a new company called Ralcorp Holdings, including the RyKrisp operations. Ralcorp was acquired by ConAgra Foods in 2013. In January 2015 ConAgra Foods announced that the factory that produces RyKrisp would be closed and the product would be discontinued due to declining demand. RyKrisp Inc. bought the brand in April 2015 with plans to revitalize it once a new manufacturing partner is found.
