Rutas Express Guatemala
The Rutas Express Guatemala (English: Express Routes), is an Express Public Transit system that operates from the Mixco Municipality, west of Guatemala City. This service serves local residents in Mixco and the South-west end of Guatemala City, and provides some connections to Transmetro lines. Mixco is the third most populous city in the metropolitan region surrounding Guatemala City, and was severely under served by public transit from private operators in recent years. History * On February 25, 2017, Mixco began service on the first express line, named "Express Roosevelt" with 10 articulated buses. Street Running
A street running train is a train which runs on a track built on public streets. The rails are embedded in the roadway, and the train shares the street with other users, such as pedestrians, cars and cyclists, thus often being referred to as running in mixed traffic or sharing the road with trains. For safety, street running trains travel more slowly than trains on dedicated rights-of-way. Stations may appear similar in style to a tram stop, but often lack platforms, pedestrian islands, or other amenities. In some cases, passengers may be required to wait on a distant sidewalk, and then board or disembark by crossing the traffic. Mixco
Mixco () is a city and municipality in the Guatemala department of Guatemala. It is next to the main Guatemala City municipality and has become part of the Guatemala City Metropolitan Area. Most of Mixco is separated from the city by canyons, for which a multitude of bridges have been created. Ciudad San Cristóbal, one of Guatemala's largest cities, is located in this municipality. It is the second largest city in Guatemala Department, after Guatemala City, with a population of 465,773. Administrative division The municipality is divided into zones with residential neighborhoods, villages, settlements and the municipal capital. Due to its close proximity to Guatemala City, several villages were turned into residential neighborhoods. Guatemala City
Guatemala City ( es, Ciudad de Guatemala), known locally as Guatemala or Guate, is the capital and largest city of Guatemala, and the most populous urban area in Central America. Transmetro
Transmetro is a bus rapid transit system in Guatemala City, Guatemala. The first line opened on February 3, 2007. The fleet consists of modern Volvo buses made by Ciferal in Brazil. The buses have fixed stops and partly run on dedicated lanes, avoiding other traffic. Both stops and vehicles are guarded by municipal police. Service began in 2007 with a route between the City Hall (Municipalidad) and a market place at Centra Sur (Southern Transfer Station). The second route, ''Eje Central'', started operations on August 14, 2010. This route serves the central corridor between 6th and 7th Avenue of Zones 1, 4, and 9. Buses run down the middle of the street, are separated from other traffic, and stop at stations approximately every kilometre. Metro Riel
Metro Riel is a light rail line proposed for Guatemala's capital, Guatemala City. Background In October 2016, it was reported that Spanish consulting engineer IDOM conducted a feasibility study into a light rail system for Guatemala City, evaluating the cost at $770 million.
