The phrase, and derivatives of the phrase, became widely adopted during the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine in protests and demonstrations around the world. Weeks later, the phrase was commemorated on a postage stamp by Ukrposhta, the Ukrainian postal service. The Ukrainian border guards were captured by the Russian Navy in the attack. Bile ( uk, Біле, Bile) is the only village on Snake Island, in Izmail Raion in Odesa Oblast, southern Ukraine. It belongs to the Vylkove urban hromada, one of the hromadas (municipalities) of Ukraine. History Bile was founded in 2007 on Snake Island to serve Ukraine in a then ongoing dispute with Romania regarding the territorial waters surrounding the island. This was criticized by Romania, which tried to prove that the village in Snake Island could not constitute a permanent settlement.
