Russian Railway Museum
The Russian Railway Museum is situated next to Baltiysky railway station in Saint Petersburg. The museum was established in 1978, its current site and exhibition opened to public on 1 November 2017. The museum utilizes the nineteenth century locomotive shed of the Peterhof Railway built in 1857–1858, however a large second exhibition building and open exhibition areas have been added. History In 1974, the trade union and the management of the Oktyabrskaya railway, Oktyabrskaya Railway decided to establish a museum for the employees of the enterprise. The Obukhovskii 12"/52 Pattern 1907 gun was a , 52-caliber naval gun. It was the most powerful gun to be mounted aboard battleships of the Imperial Russian Navy and later the Soviet Navy during both world wars. It was later modified by the Soviets and employed as coastal artillery and as a railway gun during World War II. Prussian T 9
The Prussian T 9 was a class of German steam locomotive which included several types of tank engine, all with six coupled wheels and two carrying wheels operated by the Prussian state railways. T 9.1 Class T 9.1 of the Prussian state railways were goods train tank locomotives with a 0-6-2T wheel arrangement. They were intended for service on branch lines, for goods train duties on main lines and for shunting (rail) work. The Finnish VR Class Tk3 (original classification 'K5') was a 2-8-0 light freight locomotive. Russian Locomotive Class Shch-el-1
The shch-el-1 (Cyrillic script: Щэл1) was the Soviet Union's first diesel locomotive. It was designed by Yakov Modestovich Gakkel and built by the Putilov Plant and the Baltic Shipyard in Petrograd (St. Petersburg, Russia). It was completed in 1924 and named "The Lenin Memorial Diesel Locomotive". Powertrain The prime mover was a Vickers 10 cylinder diesel engine. According to Westwood, this was "presumably salvaged from a British submarine lost in the Baltic in 1919". The electric generators were also of submarine type but were made in Italy. Details of the traction motors are unknown. Service After trials, the locomotive worked on the Moscow-Kursk line but spent a lot of time out of service. Russian Locomotive Class Ye
The Russian locomotive class Ye, and subclasses Yea, Yek, Yel, Yef, Yem, Yemv and Yes (Russian: Паровоз Е; Еа, Ек, Ел, Еф, Ем, Емв and Ес) were a series of 2-10-0 locomotives built by American builders for the Russian railways in World War I and again in World War II. They were lightweight engines with relatively low axle loadings. Due to the Bolshevik revolution in 1917, 200 locomotives were stranded in the United States; these were fitted with wider tires (locomotive driving wheels had steel tires which were heated to expand them, then driven over the wheels so that they shrank into place. Russian Locomotive Class LV
The Soviet locomotive class LV (russian: ЛВ) was a Soviet main freight steam locomotive type. Between 1952 and 1956, 522 locomotives were built. Development The class LV locomotive was designed as a successor to the class L 2-10-0, which had been a successful design developed during World War II. However, by the late 1940s some drawbacks to the design, including poor operating qualities when operating in reverse, had become apparent. In 1949 the General Directorate of the Ministry of Railways authorized the development of a new 2-10-2 locomotive. Chinese Eastern Railway
The Chinese Eastern Railway or CER (, russian: Китайско-Восточная железная дорога, or , ''Kitaysko-Vostochnaya Zheleznaya Doroga'' or ''KVZhD''), is the historical name for a railway system in Northeast China (also known as Manchuria). Yefim And Miron Cherepanov
Yefim Alekseyevich Cherepanov (russian: Ефи́м Алексе́евич Черепа́нов; 1774 – 1842), and his son Miron Yefimovich Cherepanov (russian: Миро́н Ефи́мович Черепа́нов; 1803 – 1849) were Russian inventors and industrial engineers. They were serfs of the Demidovs – a famous family of factory owners. The TEP70 is a main line single-unit diesel locomotive, rated at , with AC/DC transmission and individual axle traction control, designed to haul passenger trains on the Russian gauge railway network of eastern Europe. As of 2022, it is still in service in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Kazakhstan.
