Russian Open (badminton)
The Russian Open in badminton was an international open held in Russia since 1993. This tournament is the continuation of the USSR International. In 2007 it became a BWF Grand Prix Gold. After the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine On 24 February 2022, in a major escalation of the Russo-Ukrainian War, which began in 2014. The invasion has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths on both sides. Badminton
Badminton is a racquet sport played using racquets to hit a shuttlecock across a net. Although it may be played with larger teams, the most common forms of the game are "singles" (with one player per side) and "doubles" (with two players per side). Badminton is often played as a casual outdoor activity in a yard or on a beach; formal games are played on a rectangular indoor court. Points are scored by striking the shuttlecock with the racquet and landing it within the opposing side's half of the court. Each side may only strike the shuttlecock once before it passes over the net. Play ends once the shuttlecock has struck the floor or if a fault has been called by the umpire, service judge, or (in their absence) the opposing side. The shuttlecock is a feathered or (in informal matches) plastic projectile which flies differently from the balls used in many other sports. Chen Xingdong
Chen Xingdong (; born 2 April 1970) is a Chinese former badminton player. He competed at the 1996 Summer Olympics in the mixed doubles event together with his partner Peng Xinyong. Chen was part of the Sichuan Sports Technology College team since 1984 and retired from the international tournament in 1997. In 1998, he was selected as a coach in Sichuan Province team and at the same year he join national team as a men's team coach. In early 2000, he focused as a mixed doubles coach. His career in badminton started to appear in 1993 when he and his mixed doubles partner Sun Man won the gold medal at the 1993 East Asian Games, 1993 China Open, and 1994 Asian Championships. Chen qualified to competed at the 1994 World Cup with Gu Jun and finished as a runner-up. Rikke Olsen
Rikke Olsen Siegemund (born 19 April 1975) is a retired badminton player from Denmark. She won the mixed doubles title at the World Junior Championships in 1992 and the girls' doubles title at the European Junior Championships in 1993. Born in Søndre Roskilde, Olsen came from the badminton family, and started playing at the age of six. She trained in Kastrup-Magleby BK and played for the team for eight seasons, won fourteen National titles, seven World Championships bronze medals, three times runner-up in All England Open, and reached in to the bronze medal match at the Olympic Games in 1996, 2000 and 2004. Han Jingna
Han Jingna (; born 16 January 1975) is a Chinese retired badminton player who rated among the world's leading women's singles players in the 1990s. Han began practicing badminton at the age of seven. Two years later, she trained at the sports school in Wuhan. She was selected to join the Hubei team in 1988 when she was thirteen, and to join the national team in 1989. Sun Jun (; born 16 June 1975) is a former world number 1 singles badminton player from China in the late 1990s whose resume includes the World Championship, World Cup, Asian Championship and All England men's singles titles. He was known for his all-round defensive ability as well as his never-say-die attitude on court as exemplified by his famous match with Peter Rasmussen whereby he suffered a severe leg cramp during mid-match but basically carried on to finish an entire set limping on one leg, at one point leading by 10-3 due to intelligent play before succumbing to his opponent. Jens Dyrløv Eriksen (born 30 December 1969) is a badminton player from Denmark. He competed in four consecutive Olympic Games from 1996 to 2008, and won a mixed doubles bronze medal in 2004 partnered with Mette Schjoldager. At the World Championships, Eriksen won two silvers in 1995 and 1997, and also two bronze medals in 2001 and 2006. Thomas Lund
Thomas Haubro Lund (born 2 August 1968) is a retired badminton player from Denmark who affiliate with Kastrup Magleby club. Career Lund was one of the world's leading doubles specialists of the 1990s, particularly in mixed doubles. He was a silver medalist in both men's and mixed doubles at the 1991 IBF World Championships. In 1993 and 1995 he won consecutive gold medals in mixed doubles at the IBF World Championships, the first with Sweden's Catrine Bengtsson and the second with his compatriot Marlene Thomsen. From 1990 through 1994 Lund won five consecutive mixed doubles titles with three different partners at the now defunct World Badminton Grand Prix.
