Marlene Thomsen (born 5 May 1971) is a former badminton player from Denmark. Career 1992 Summer Olympics Thomsen competed in badminton at the 1992 Summer Olympics in women's doubles with Lisbet Stuer-Lauridsen. In the first round, they defeated Denyse Julien and Doris Piche of Canada 15-7, 15-7. In the second round they were beaten by the eventual silver medalist, Guan Weizhen and Nong Qunhua of China, 15-3, 15-12. 1996 Summer Olympics She also competed in badminton at the 1996 Summer Olympics in women's doubles with Lisbet Stuer-Lauridsen. Nong Qunhua
Nong Qunhua (; born July 20, 1966) is a former international badminton player from China who specialized in women's doubles. Career Nong was one of the world's leading women's doubles players of the early 1990s, winning the IBF World Championships in 1991 with Guan Weizhen and in 1993 with Zhou Lei. With Guan, Nong also won the 1990 Asian Games, was a silver medalist at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, and was a runner-up at the 1992 All England Championships. With Zhou Lei she won the Thailand and Hong Kong Opens in 1992. Guan Weizhen
Guan won numerous major international doubles titles in the late 1980s and early 1990s. She is the only woman to have won three consecutive women's doubles titles at the BWF World Championships. She won the 1987 and 1989 tournaments with Lin Ying, and the 1991 tourney with Nong Qunhua. Denyse Julien
Denyse Julien (born July 22, 1960, in Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec) is a former badminton player from Canada noted for her versatility and longevity. Career Between 1981 and 2004 Julien won a record 31 Canadian National Championship events, thirteen in singles, eight in women's doubles, and ten in mixed doubles. She also captured five events at the Canadian Open Championships, including women's singles in 1989. Julien earned four individual medals at the quadrennial Commonwealth Games. These include a silver medal in singles (1990), and a silver (1986) and two bronzes (1990, 1994) in women's doubles. Julien's record in another quadrennial competition, the Pan American Games, has been particularly noteworthy. A few months shy of her 35th birthday she won all three events at Mar del Plata, Argentina in 1995 when badminton was introduced into these Games. Badminton is a racquet sport played using racquets to hit a shuttlecock across a net. Although it may be played with larger teams, the most common forms of the game are "singles" (with one player per side) and "doubles" (with two players per side). Badminton is often played as a casual outdoor activity in a yard or on a beach; formal games are played on a rectangular indoor court.
