Russia At The 2015 European Games
Russian Federation participated at the I European Games, which took place in Baku, Azerbaijan from 12 to 28 June 2015. Russia sent athletes for every sport except athletics, as the level of Russian athletes was too high, according to Russia's Minister of Sports Vitaly Mutko. Russia still had the largest team at the Games, with the athletics programme consisting of only one event. Russia finished in the first place on the medal rankings, winning 79 gold medals. Team Russia sent around 620 athletes, coaches, managers, physicians and masseurs. At an executive committee meeting of the Russian Olympic Committee on 21 May, the number of participants was named 367 athletes, 317 of which represent Olympic sports, 40 non-Olympic sports, seven demonstration sports and three Paralympic sports. Elena "Zamo" Mikhailovna Zamolodchikova (russian: Елена Михайловна Замолодчикова; born 19 September 1982) is a Russian former artistic gymnast, and four-time Olympic medallist. In 2015, she was inducted in the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame. Career Zamolodchikova began gymnastics at the age of six. In 1999 she participated in her first major senior competition, the World Gymnastics Championships. She won the gold in vault and the bronze in the all-around. Just days before the 2000 European Championships in Paris, her father died as a result of radiation exposure from the Chernobyl accident. Diving At The 2015 European Games
The Diving events at the 2015 European Games took place at the Baku Aquatics Centre, Baku from 18 to 21 June 2015. Eight events were contested, six from the Olympic program, 3 metre and 3 metre synchronised springboard, and platform for both men and women. In addition, two non-Olympic events, men's and women's 1m springboard, were be held. The Olympic events of men's and women's 10 metre synchronised diving were not held. Diving was not included in the earliest list of sports confirmed for the 2015 Games, as the European swimming authorities at that stage were minded not to take part. Canoeing was contested at the 2015 European Games between 14 and 16 June 2015. No canoe slalom events were held in Baku. A total of fifteen medal events were held, three for men only in canoe, and 12 events in kayak across both genders, all on flat water. Despite the sport being described in official literature as ''canoe sprint'', in line with Olympic practice, a canoe marathon, a 5000-metre non-Olympic event, was included for each gender. Boxing competitions at the 2015 European Games were held from 16 to 27 June 2015 at the Crystal Hall 3 venue in the main Games cluster in Baku. The competition consisted of ten weight events for men, and five for women, and was contested, as at the Olympic Games, under rules and formats set out by the AIBA. Baku served as the first of two European qualification events for the AIBA World Boxing Championships, itself the largest qualification event for the 2016 Summer Olympics. Badminton at the 2015 European Games in Baku took place from 22 to 28 June 2015 at Baku Sports Hall. The competition was held over a seven-day period and include five medal events in men’s and women’s singles, men’s and women’s doubles and mixed doubles. Approximately 160 athletes competed. Qualification 32 quota places are available for each singles event, and 16 places (involving 32 players) are available for each pairs event. The Badminton World Federation (BWF) ranking list of 26 March 2015 will be used for deciding eligibility for the event. There will be no separate qualification event. Archery At The 2015 European Games
At the 2015 European Games in Baku, five events of archery were contested, all in the target archery format, with recurve bows. The events took place at the Tofiq Bahramov Stadium over seven days of competition. The European Games format followed that of the Olympic Games with 64 men and 64 women competing in the recurve division, in individual and team events as well as in mixed team. Alexander Dmitriyevich Zhukov (russian: Александр Дмитриевич Жуков; born 1 June 1956) is a Russian economist and politician. Zhukov was a member of the State Duma from 1994 to 2004.
