Russell is an unincorporated hamlet in Bottineau County in the U.S. state of North Dakota. There are no businesses or services there, only about half a dozen homes scattered along narrow, intersecting dirt roads. Russell is a town in St. Lawrence County, New York, United States. The population was 1,856 at the 2010 census. The town is named after Russell Attwater, the pioneer land owner. The Town of Russell is centrally located in the county and is south of Canton. History The town land was purchased by Russell Atwater in 1798. The town was first settled in 1805. Russell Attwater was elected the first town supervisor, when the town was formed in 1807 from Hopkinton from previously named townships: Dewitt, Ballybean and Sarahsburg. Russell is a census-designated place that comprises the populated center of the town of Russell in Hampden County, Massachusetts, United States. The population of the CDP was 786 at the 2010 census, out of 1,775 in the entire town of Russell. It is part of the Springfield, Massachusetts Metropolitan Statistical Area. Russell is a home rule-class city on the south bank of the Ohio River in Greenup County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 3,380 as of the 2010 census, down from 3,645 in 2000. Russell is a suburb of Ashland and part of the Huntington-Ashland-Ironton metropolitan area. Russell is the most populous city in and the county seat of Russell County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 4,401. History In 1865, the Butterfield Overland Despatch established a short-lived station named Fossil Creek Station along its route from Atchison, Kansas to Denver near the site of modern Russell. In 1867, the Kansas Pacific Railway reached the area and built its own station, also named Fossil Creek, later just Fossil, north of the Butterfield station. That same year, the Kansas Legislature established the surrounding area as Russell County. History Russell was incorporated as a city on April 25, 1887. The town was originally settled by German and Irish settlers in the 1850s.
