Russell (Rusty) Hellman (1917-2004) was a Democratic member of the Michigan House of Representatives, representing the western end of the Upper Peninsula for two decades. The Michigan House of Representatives is the lower house of the Michigan Legislature. There are 110 members, each of whom is elected from constituencies having approximately 77,000 to 91,000 residents, based on population figures from the 2010 U.S. Census. Its composition, powers and duties are established in Article IV of the Michigan Constitution. Don Koivisto
Donald W. Koivisto (born August 18, 1949) is a Democratic politician from the U.S. state of Michigan. Political career Koivisto was elected to the Michigan House of Representatives in 1980. During his time there, he chaired the Agriculture Committee and helped write the state's right-to-farm act. In 1990, Koivisto was elected a Michigan State Senator from the 38th district, succeeding Joe Mack, who had represented much of the Upper Peninsula since 1960. Koivisto served as state senator until 2003 when he was term-limited. Houghton County is a county in the Upper Peninsula in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2020 Census, the population was 37,361. The county seat and largest city is Houghton. Both the county and the city were named for Michigan State geologist and Detroit Mayor Douglass Houghton. Dollar Bay is a census-designated place (CDP) in Houghton County, Michigan, United States. The population was 1,082 at the 2010 census. Geography Dollar Bay is located in the southwest corner of Osceola Township. The CDP extends west into Franklin Township as far as Goat Hill Road and south into Torch Lake Township. The community takes its name from Dollar Bay, a small inlet of Portage Lake, the water body that separates the Keweenaw Peninsula from the rest of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
