The Tocumwal railway line (also known as the Shepparton line) is a gauge railway line in Victoria, Australia. The line runs between the border town of Tocumwal in New South Wales to Southern Cross, Melbourne. The line is utilised by various passenger and freight trains serving the northern suburbs of Melbourne and northern regions of Victoria. History The Melbourne and Essendon Railway Company opened the first section of the Tocumwal railway line from North Melbourne to Essendon in 1860. Following its take over by the Victorian Government in 1867, the line was extended to Tallarook and Mangalore in 1872. Stanhope is a town in north central Victoria, Australia. Stanhope is from Shepparton. It lies north of the state capital Melbourne and south west of Canberra the capital city of Australia. Girgarre ( ) is a small town in the Goulburn Valley, Victoria, Australia. It is in the Shire of Campaspe local government area. At the , Girgarre and surrounding area had a population of 561. History The Post Office opened on 21 May 1917 as Stanhope North, and was renamed Girgarre in 1920. A railway branch line from Rushworth opened in 1917. Colbinabbin is a town in central Victoria, Australia. The name is derived from aboriginal meaning "the meeting of the black and red soils". At the , Colbinabbin and the surrounding area had a population of 297. History Located on the banks of Cornella Creek, Colbinabbin was first settled in the 1850s. A township was established in the 1870s, the Post Office opening on 9 August 1872. In the 1930s the area had significant change with the construction of the Waranga - Mallee channel, which bisects the town.
