White City, Kansas
White City is a city in Morris County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 447. History White City was founded in 1871 by a colony from Chicago. It was named for F.C. White, superintendent of the Neosho division of the M-K-T Railroad, which was built on the land in 1868, prior to the existence of the community. Prior to the naming of the community, other names considered were "New Chicago" (because the founders came from Chicago) and "Swedeland" (because so many Swedes settled in the community). The first post office in White City was established in January 1872. In 1887, the Chicago, Kansas and Nebraska Railway built a main line from Topeka through White City to Herington. Skiddy, Kansas
Skiddy is an unincorporated community in Morris County, Kansas, United States. History Skiddy was founded in 1870. It was named after railroad magnate Francis Skiddy. Between March 11, 1879, and August 3, 1883, it was renamed Camden. The post office in Skiddy was discontinued in 1953. The Missouri–Kansas–Texas Railroad served Skiddy for many years, and the grain elevator adjacent to the railroad tracks still stands today. The Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA) is the organization which oversees interscholastic competition in the U.S. state of Kansas at the high school, high-school level. It oversees both athletic and non-athletic competition, and sponsors championships in several sports and activities. History The Kansas State High School Activities Association was formed in 1937 and incorporated in 1956. As early as 1910, Kansas schools organized the statewide Debate League and Athletic Association governed by high school principals. The Athletic Association started as a small voluntary group of fewer than 50 schools and grew to more than 500 schools by the 1920s. History The community was originally called Far West, and was founded in about 1883. It was renamed Latimer in 1888. Latimer was the name of one of the town's founders. In 1887, the Chicago, Kansas and Nebraska Railway built a main line from Topeka through Latimer to Herington.
