Runaround Kids
Runaround Kids were an English three-piece indie rock band from Wakefield, West Yorkshire. The band consisted of George Garthwaite, Jack Winn, Rob Burnell. They enjoyed notable success on the British indie rock scene, occasionally receiving mainstream attention, including being named Huw Stephens' "Tip of the Week" on his Radio One show in September 2010. History Runaround Kids formed in 2007, two years in later in 2009 they released their first EP, ''Kiss Chase''. Jumbo Records, Leeds, described it as; "Really, really great indie pop/rock that chugs along like a frantic newwave addicted monkey". In August 2010 they played Reading and Leeds Festivals. Live At Leeds (festival)
Live at Leeds is a music festival that takes place across various venues in Leeds, England, on the weekend of the May Day bank holiday. The festival began in 2007 to mark the city of Leeds's 800th birthday and was jointly hosted by Leeds City Council and music promotion company Futuresound. This initial event took place at the end of May and featured around 50 bands playing live in and around Leeds city centre along with film screenings and a music industry seminar. The 2008 event took place over the weekend of the May Day bank holiday and featured two concerts by Leeds band The Pigeon Detectives at Millennium Square as its centrepiece. 1990s and White Lies were among the groups who played the 2009 festival, while 2010 saw sets by the likes of Lightspeed Champion, British Sea Power and The Twilight Sad. BBC Radio 6 Music is a British digital radio station owned and operated by the BBC, specialising primarily in alternative music. BBC 6 Music was the first national music radio station to be launched by the BBC in 32 years. Amazing Radio
Amazing Radio is an international radio station first broadcast originally on digital radio in the United Kingdom. The station plays new music from a number of music genres including pop, rock, indie, hip hop, electronica and jazz. The station originally broadcast on the Digital One ensemble which replaced the temporary Birdsong test transmission which had been running for a year and a half beforehand. The station discontinued its DAB presence in 2012 to become an Internet-only radio station, but later returned to DAB in London and Dublin. The station subsequently decided it was not worth paying to be on DAB when so much radio listening is now online. ''Drowned in Sound'', sometimes abbreviated to ''DiS'', is a UK-based music webzine financed by artist management company Silentway. Founded by editor Sean Adams, the site features reviews, news, interviews, and discussion forums. History ''DiS'' began as an email fanzine in 1998 called ''The Last Resort'' but was relaunched by founder and editor Sean Adams as ''Drowned in Sound'' in 2000. The freelance writing team is currently spread across four continents – North America, Asia, Europe and Australasia. Shrag were a British post-punk-influenced indie pop band, based in London and Brighton. The band released three albums on the Where It's at Is Where You Are label, the last a joint release on Fortuna Pop! Formation and early years Shrag's first release was the home-recorded song "Punk Grammar", which debuted on ''Under The Beach, A Heart Attack'' – a 2003 compilation album and fanzine of Brighton bands, put together by local club night It Came From The Sea, and featuring a foreword by the then Brighton-based music critic Everett True. The fanzine tells the story of Shrag's formation in a comic book format. Dinosaur Pile-Up are an English alternative rock band formed in late 2007. Hailing from Leeds, West Yorkshire. Current members are lead vocalist, lead singer and electric guitar, guitarist Matt Bigland, drum kit, drummer Mike Sheils and bass guitar, bassist Jim Cratchley. Their past members include Steve Wilson (2008-2010), Tom Dornford-May (2008-2010), Tommy Davidson (2008), Harry Johns (2010-2011), and James Sacha (2013). Johnny Foreigner
Johnny Foreigner are an indie rock four-piece from Birmingham, UK, consisting of guitarist and lead vocalist Alexei Berrow, bassist and vocalist Kelly Parker (née Southern), drummer Junior Elvis Washington Laidley, and guitarist and visual artist Lewes Herriot. The band released six albums, beginning with a self-release in 2005 and their full-studio debut Waited Up 'til It Was Light in 2008. Pulled Apart by Horses are an English alternative rock band from Leeds. They formed in early 2008. The band were signed by Transgressive Records in 2009, and released their debut self-titled album ''Pulled Apart by Horses'' on 21 June 2010. In August 2011, they went into Monnow Valley Studio in Wales to record with record producer Gil Norton, and their second album ''Tough Love'' was released to critical acclaim on 20 January 2012. After ''Tough Love'', the band sold out their first European tour, and went on to support Biffy Clyro and Foals. In 2010 they supported Muse at the Old Trafford Cricket Ground. Jeffrey Lewis (born November 20, 1975) is an American singer-songwriter and comic book artist. Early life Lewis was born in New York City and grew up on the Lower East Side. He attended State University of New York at Purchase, graduating in 1997 with a degree in Literature. His Senior Literary Thesis was on the comic book ''Watchmen''. Lewis also lectured on the topic of ''Watchmen'' at the Institute For Cultural Studies at the University of Leuven, Belgium, in 2000, and the text of his lecture ("The Dual Nature of Apocalypse in Watchmen") was published in the book ''The Graphic Novel'', edited by Jan Baetens, in 2001. Tramlines Festival
The Tramlines Festival is an annual music festival held in Sheffield, UK. The festival was originally free to attend, but now requires tickets. The line-up consists of national and local artists. The festival was curated and organised by a panel comprising local venue owners, promoters and volunteers. The name of the festival is inspired by the city's tram network. Tramlines held its first festival in 2009, which attracted 35,000 fans and was seen as a huge success, and 2010's event doubled that figure. Dance To The Radio
Dance To The Radio is a British independent record label, based in Leeds, England. History It was named after the refrain of the Joy Division song "Transmission". The label launched with the release of a compilation album 'Dance To The Radio: Leeds' at an eponymous launch event in Leeds in March 2005. The label subsequently released some 7" singles by the likes of iLiKETRAiNS, The Pigeon Detectives, Yes Boss, Napoleon IIIrd, This Et Al and ¡Forward, Russia!. They have been featured a number of times in ''NME'', Drowned in Sound and in Artrocker for being a notable success of the DIY ethic in the indie music scene at the moment.
