Ruins () are the remains of a civilization's architecture. The term refers to formerly intact structures that have fallen into a state of partial or total disrepair over time due to a variety of factors, such as lack of maintenance, deliberate destruction by humans, or uncontrollable destruction by natural phenomena. The most common root causes that yield ruins in their wake are natural disasters, armed conflict, and population decline, with many structures becoming progressively derelict over time due to long-term weathering and scavenging. Ruins (Japanese Band)
Ruins is a Japanese music duo composed only of drummer/vocalist Tatsuya Yoshida and a bass guitarist (there have been four such bassists in the band's history). The group, formed in 1985, was supposedly intended to be a power trio; the guitarist, however, never showed up to the band's first rehearsal so the group remained a duo. The music touches on progressive rock, jazz fusion and noise rock. Background The French progressive rock band Magma is the group's most important influence, to such an extent that Ruins' original lyrics are written and sung in an invented language which, at first glance, resembles Kobaïan, the language invented by Christian Vander of Magma. Ruins' material (which Yoshida, who composes the majority of their pieces, writes out in score form) is generally of extreme complexity and thus is often described as inaccessible; potential listeners may be bewildered by the band's unrestrained yet disciplined approach. ''Warrior's Lair'' was an action role-playing video game set in a medieval fantasy setting being developed for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita. The game was presented June 2011 at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) where it demonstrated Sony Computer Entertainment's new handheld games console, and the ability to transfer active games between the two consoles. The game was being co-developed by Sony Computer Entertainment and Idol Minds, but Sony announced its cancellation in July 2013. ''Music Is Rotted One Note'' is the third studio album by English electronic musician Squarepusher, released on 12 October 1998 by Warp. The album is a departure for Squarepusher, with only elements of the familiar drum and bass style appearing in a largely jazz fusion production. Background The production of ''Music Is Rotted One Note'' did not involve any sequencing or sampling equipment, which had featured heavily on Squarepusher's previous work. Many of the tracks instead have a "live" feel, featuring virtuoso playing by Squarepusher on the drums and bass guitar. ''Undertale Soundtrack'' (stylized as ''UNDERTALE Soundtrack'') is a soundtrack album by Toby Fox, released in 2015 for the video game ''Undertale''. Development The game's soundtrack was entirely composed by Fox with FL Studio. A self-taught musician, he composed most of the tracks with little iteration; the game's main theme, "Undertale", was the only song to undergo multiple iterations in development. "Ruins" is a 1974 instrumental composed by Fred Frith for the English avant-rock group Henry Cow. It was recorded in February and March 1974 by Henry Cow, and released on their May 1974 album, ''Unrest'' by Virgin Records. A jazz interpretation of "Ruins" was recorded by the with spoken texts by John Greaves and released on their 2019 album, '' Echoes of Henry Cow''. Development In 1970 Frith and John Greaves began developing a piece they later called " Teenbeat". It became a collection of instrumental fragments and ideas the two had been working on. Some of these fragments took on a life of their own and evolved into free-standing compositions. One of them was Frith's "With the Yellow Half-Moon and Blue Star"; the other was "Ruins". On "Ruins" Frith used Fibonacci numbers to establish beat and harmony. First Aid Kit is a Swedish folk duo consisting of the sisters Johanna and Klara Söderberg, born in 1990 and 1993, respectively. Wolf People are an English psychedelic rock band, formed by singer and guitarist Jack Sharp in Bedford in 2005. The band announced an indefinite hiatus in January 2020. After returning to his home of Bedfordshire following a period living in London, Sharp began recording songs under the name Wolf People, after the Margaret Greaves children's book '' Little Jacko and the Wolf People''. After releasing some of these songs as singles on the Battered Ornament label, Sharp joined up with childhood friend and drummer Tom Watt and guitarist Joe Hollick and the three began performing live. ''Ruins'' is the tenth studio album by American musician Liz Harris under the stage name Grouper. It was released in the United States on October 31, 2014 on Kranky. Recording In a statement accompanying the announcement of the album's release, Liz Harris described its recording process: While in Portugal, where she stayed in a house owned by the aunt of music director Sérgio Hydalgo, Harris listened to records by Carlos Paredes, Nina Simone and Leonard Cohen. Regarding "Call Across Rooms", Harris stated that "the song is on one level very plain and literal, about a letter I wrote for someone I loved and could not get along with.
