Rugby league nines at the 2015 Pacific Games was held from 11–12 July 2015 at Sir John Guise Stadium. Hosts Papua New Guinea won the gold medal, defeating Samoa in the final by 38–10. Tonga took the bronze medal, defeating the Cook Islands by 16-14 in the third place match. PNG's Wartovo Puara Jr was named Player of the Tournament. Sir John Guise Stadium
The Sir John Guise Stadium is a multi-sport and Sport of athletics, athletics venue located in Port Moresby, the capital city of Papua New Guinea, and is part of the larger Sir John Guise Sports Precinct which also includes an indoor arena, beach volleyball/hockey court, and aquatics center. The stadium is named after John Guise (governor-general), Sir John Guise, the first Governor-General of Papua New Guinea. History Foundation The stadium was opened in 1991 to host the 1991 South Pacific Games, South Pacific Games that year. The stadium had an original capacity of approximately 5,000 spectators. Redevelopment On 27 September 2009, Papua New Guinea was chosen to host the 2015 Pacific Games. Israel Eliab
Israel Eliab (born 16 January 1991) is a Papua New Guinea professional rugby league footballer who played for the PNG Hunters in the Queensland Cup. A Papua New Guinea international, most notably at the 2013 World Cup. Eliab previously played for the London Broncos in the Championship. Background Eliab was born and raised in the small town of Kokopo in the East New Britain Province of Papua New Guinea. He comes from a mixed parentage of East New Britain and Manus. Playing career He started off playing in the domestic competition (Digicel Cup) in PNG for the Rabaul Gurias. Israel previously played for the Port Moresby Vipers with whom he won a premiership title in 2013. He then played for the Papua New Guinea Hunters in the Queensland Intrust Super Cup competition, for which he is also the captain. Taufa Fukofuka (born October 22, 1979) is a Tongan rugby league footballer who plays as a five-eighth for the Mu'a Saints in the Tonga National Rugby League competition. Michael Marum
Michael Marum (born 8 October 1973) is a Papua New Guinean rugby league coach and former player who was the first head coach of the Port Moresby-based PNG Hunters in the Queensland Cup and the Papua New Guinea national team. During his playing career, Marum represented Papua New Guinea at the 2000 World Cup. He is the nephew of Skerry Palanga, who coached Papua New Guinea in the 1980s and 1990s. Playing career Marum played for the Port Moresby Vipers and then went on to captain, the Agmark Rabaul Guria's and played four tests for Papua New Guinea, including one at the 2000 World Cup. Coaching career Some of Marum's earliest coaching roles were as an assistant for the PNG national side at the 2008 World Cup and 2010 Four Nations. His first head coach role was with the Agmark Gurias in the PNG domestic competition in 2012. Marum has also served as the competition director to the local Agmark nines tournament.
