Royal Park Hotel
The Royal Park Hotel (), established in 1989, is one of the largest hotels in Sha Tin, New Territories, Hong Kong. Owned by Sun Hung Kai Properties, the 443-room hotel is part of phase two of New Town Plaza, the largest shopping centre in the district. History Background The site of the hotel used to be part of RAF Shatin, a Royal Air Force airbase with a single concrete runway. The lot was leased to developer Sun Hung Kai Properties in the early 1980s as part of the development of Sha Tin New Town. The hotel and the adjacent New Town Tower (an office building) comprise phase two of the New Town Plaza development. Shatin
Sha Tin, also spelt Shatin, is a neighbourhood along Shing Mun River in the eastern New Territories, Hong Kong. Administratively, it is part of the Sha Tin District. Sha Tin is one of the neighbourhoods of the Sha Tin New Town project. The new town was founded in 1973 under the New Towns Development Programme of the Hong Kong government. Its current name was named after the nearby village of Sha Tin Wai. The literal English translation is 'Sand Fields'. History Tai Wai Village, located in Tai Wai, next to Sha Tin, and the oldest and largest walled village in Sha Tin District, was built in 1574, during the Ming Dynasty. Before British rule in Hong Kong, the area of Sha Tin and its vicinity was referred to as Lek Yuen (lit. "source of trickling" or "source of clear water"). Royal Plaza Hotel () is a five-star hotel on Prince Edward Road West, Mong Kok, Kowloon, Hong Kong that opened in 1997. In 2018, the hotel celebrated its 20th anniversary. Owned by Sun Hung Kai Properties, it is located next to Grand Century Place and above the Mong Kok East station of the MTR. History At the end of 1990, the Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation entered a joint venture with Sun Hung Kai Properties to develop the site. Equestrian competitions at the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympics were held from 9 August to 21 August at the Hong Kong Sports Institute and Sheung Yue River in Hong Kong. An Olympic Village is an accommodation center built for the Olympic Games, usually within an Olympic Park or elsewhere in a host city. Olympic Villages are built to house all participating athletes, as well as officials and athletic trainers.
