Roy Zimmerman (baseball)
Roy Franklin Zimmerman (September 13, 1913 – November 22, 1991) https://sabr.org/bioproj/person/roy-zimmerman/ was an American professional baseball first baseman. He played part of the 1945 season in Major League Baseball for the New York Giants (NL), New York Giants in 1945. He stood and weighed 187 lbs at the time he was drafted. Zimmerman is one of many ballplayers who only appeared in the major leagues during World War II. He made his major league debut on September 2, 1945 in a doubleheader (baseball), doubleheader against the Brooklyn Dodgers at the Polo Grounds. He hit well and exhibited some power during his one-month stay with the Giants. A first baseman, abbreviated 1B, is the player on a baseball or softball team who fields the area nearest first base, the first of four bases a baserunner must touch in succession to score a run. The first baseman is responsible for the majority of plays made at that base. In the numbering system used to record defensive plays, the first baseman is assigned the number 3. In baseball statistics, slugging percentage (SLG) is a measure of the batting productivity of a hitter.
