Moline ( ) is a city located in Rock Island County, Illinois, United States. With a population of 42,985 in 2020, it is the largest city in Rock Island County. Moline is one of the Quad Cities, along with neighboring East Moline, Illinois, East Moline and Rock Island, Illinois, Rock Island in Illinois and the cities of Davenport, Iowa, Davenport and Bettendorf, Iowa, Bettendorf in Iowa. Robert Moline
Robert William Haines Moline (20 October 18898 August 1979) was an Anglican bishop. Moline was born at Sudbury, Suffolk (where his father was Rector) and educated at The King's School, Canterbury and Emmanuel College, Cambridge. Decorated for World War I service with the Rifle Brigade, he was made deacon on Trinity Sunday 1920 (30 May) and ordained priest the following Trinity Sunday (22 May 1921), both times by Arthur Winnington-Ingram, Bishop of London, at St Paul's Cathedral. He began his ministry with a curacy at St Matthew's, Bethnal Green after which he joined the Brotherhood of St Barnabas in North Queensland. He was its Warden from 1925 to 1927 and was the Archdeacon of the area until 1929. Returning to England he was Rector of North Cadbury then of Poplar. The cross moline (also cross anchory, French ''croix ancrée'' "anchor cross") is a Christian cross, constituting a kind of heraldic cross. History The name derives from its shape, which resembles a millrind, the iron clamp of the upper millstone, ''moline'' being the Old French for a mill. The Moline Plowboys was a primary name of the minor league baseball teams based in Moline, Illinois, one of the Quad Cities. Moline teams played as members the 1892 Illinois-Iowa League, 1894 Western Association, the Mississippi Valley League (1924–1932), Illinois–Indiana–Iowa League (1914–1923, 1937–1941) and Central Association (1947–1948), winning four league championships. Moline station is a proposed train station in Moline, Illinois, for the ''Quad Cities'' train. Construction has begun and the station was initially expected that rail service would begin by 2019. In July 2019, a new transportation bill was passed by the Illinois state legislature, supported by Governor J.B. Pritzker, $225M was appropriated to begin this service. Moline High School is a public four-year high school located in Moline, Illinois, a city in Rock Island County, in the Midwest area of the United States. The school is the only public high school in the city of Moline, and is part of Moline-Coal Valley School District #40. Building history After the founding of the Moline Board of Education, Moline High School took the form of a two-room schoolhouse. It was replaced with Central/Washington school, which housed grades 1-13, after its building completion in 1873. This, of course, was notably larger. Still getting progressively more spacious, a building nicknamed "the Castle" by passing travelers on the Mississippi became the new Moline High School in 1894. The Moline Plow Company was an American manufacturer of plows and other farm implements, headquartered in Moline, Illinois, USA. Moline Plow was formed in the 1870s when the firm of Candee & Swan, a competitor of Deere and Company (also of Moline), won a lawsuit against Deere allowing it to use the "Moline Plow" name.. Reorganized under the new name, it built a line of horse-drawn plows and other implements to serve the large American agricultural market. The implement line included wagons and carriages. The company absorbed various smaller wagon and carriage building companies. The Moline Automobile Company, (1904 – 1924) was an American brass era automobile manufacturer in East Moline, Illinois known for the Moline, Dreadnought Moline, Moline-Knight and R & V Knight marques. History Background William H. Van Dervoort and Orlando J. Root were classmates in the Mechanical courses and graduated BS from the Michigan State Agriculture College in 1893. Van Dervoort went on to Cornell where he received his masters and became an assistant professor of mechanics at Illinois State. They organized the Root & Van Dervoort Engineering Company in 1899 to manufacture stationary and portable gas engines.
