Roy McKenzie
Sir Roy Allan McKenzie (7 November 1922 – 1 September 2007) was a New Zealand horse breeder and racer, and was well known for his philanthropy. Biography McKenzie was the son of Sir John McKenzie, who founded the McKenzies retail chain. He was born in Wellington but went to school at Timaru Boys' High School and attended the University of Otago. During World War II he served in the Royal New Zealand Air Force and the Royal Air Force as a bomb aimer. He married Shirley Howard in 1948, and they had three children together – Peter, John and Robyn. He was captain of the New Zealand ski team in the 1952 Winter Olympics, the first Winter Olympics that New Zealand entered; though as he was injured he did not compete. He worked as a chartered accountant after the war, and was the Executive Director of McKenzies (NZ) Ltd from 1949 to 1970. He also served as a director for several other companies. The Order of New Zealand is the highest honour in the New Zealand royal honours system, created "to recognise outstanding service to the Crown and people of New Zealand in a civil or military capacity". It was instituted by royal warrant on 6 February 1987. The order is modelled on the British Order of Merit and Order of the Companions of Honour. Harness Racing In New Zealand
Harness racing in New Zealand is primarily a professional sport which involves pacing and trotting competitions for Standardbred racehorses. The difference is the horse's gait or running style: * pacing is where the two legs on the same side of the horse move forward at the same time, and * trotting is where the horse moves its two diagonally opposite legs forward at the same time. In New Zealand the majority of standardbred races are for pacers and the most lucrative races are in that gait. Pacers are generally faster than trotters. However, harness racing is still often called trotting as that was the sport's traditional name. SXSW Film Festival
South by Southwest, abbreviated as SXSW and colloquially referred to as South By, is an annual conglomeration of parallel film, interactive media, and music festivals and conferences organized jointly that take place in mid-March in Austin, Texas, United States.
