Route 338 (Japan)
is a national highway in the Japanese prefectures of Hokkaido and Aomori. Route 338 stretches from National Route 5 in Hakodate, Hokkaido south across the Tsugaru Strait by ferry to Ōma, Aomori, around the western, southern, and eastern edges of the Shimokita Peninsula and finally to Oirase. Route description Hakodate National Route 338 begins at an intersection with National Route 5 in central Hakodate east of Hakodate Station as part of an unsigned concurrency with National Route 279. The highway travels southwest along city streets through the city, then curves to the northwest, and turns northeast towards the former site of the city's ferry terminal, which was moved to the northwest of Hakodate Station. The highway's brief route in Hokkaido ends at the former terminal, which has since been converted into a retail area. Hakodate, Hokkaido
is a city and port located in Oshima Subprefecture, Hokkaido, Japan. It is the capital city of Oshima Subprefecture. As of July 31, 2011, the city has an estimated population of 279,851 with 143,221 households, and a population density of 412.83 persons per km2 (1,069.2 persons per sq. mi.). The total area is . Hakodate Transportation Bureau
The is a public transport authority in Hakodate, Japan. The bureau currently operates only trams, although until 2003 it also ran a number of bus routes. Ōhata, Aomori
was a town located in Shimokita District in northern Aomori Prefecture, Japan. Ōhata Village was founded in 1889. It was elevated to town status on 1 May 1934. On 14 March 2005, Ōhata, along with the neighboring town of Kawauchi, and the village of Wakinosawa (all from Shimokita District), was merged into the neighboring and expanded city of Mutsu, and thus no longer exists as an independent municipality. Located in northern Shimokita Peninsula facing Tsugaru Strait, the town of Ōhata had an economy based primarily on commercial fishing, primarily squid, octopus, salmon and sea urchin. At the time of its merger, the town had an estimated population of 8,663 and a population density of 147.8 persons per km2. The total area was 58.59 km2. Mount E
is an active stratovolcano of the Kameda peninsula, which is itself part of the larger Oshima Peninsula. It is in the rural, eastern region of Hakodate, Hokkaidō, Hakodate, Hokkaido, Japan. Mount E is part of Esan Prefectural Natural Park. Geology Mount E consists of alkali, non-alkali, mafic, volcanic rock. The andesitic volcano is topped with a lava dome. Eruptive history Mount E last erupted on June 8, 1874. This eruption consisted of phreatic explosions, and was rated a 1 on the Volcanic Explosivity Index, VEI scale. The oldest recorded eruption started November 18, 1846. The eruption triggered lahars damaging several houses and causing fatalities. Radiocarbon dating and tephrochronology indicate five other eruptions predating the historical records in the approximate years 1350, 550 BC, 1050 BC, 3900 BC ±100 years, 7050 BC. Shimoda, Aomori
was a town located in Kamikita District in central Aomori Prefecture, Japan. On March 1, 2006 Shimoda, along with the neighboring town of Momoishi (also from Kamikita District), was merged to create the town of Oirase, and thus it no longer exists as an independent municipality. Shimoda Village was founded on April 1, 1889. On August 1, 1969 it was elevated to town status. Located inland in central Aomori Prefecture and along the Oirase River, the town had an agriculture-based economy based on the production of rice, carrots, and Japanese yams.
