It starts at US 1 in East Haven and ends at US 1 in Branford, running for . Route description Route 142 begins as Hemingway Avenue at an intersection with US 1 in East Haven. It heads south, intersecting with Route 100 (Main Street) in the downtown area, and then turns eastward about later along Short Beach Road. This intersection also marks the western end of Route 337, which continues straight. Route 142 goes through the southern part of East Haven as it heads towards the village of Short Beach. After crossing the Farm River into the town of Branford, the road becomes known as Shore Drive. East Haven is a town in New Haven County, Connecticut, in the United States. As of the 2020 census, the town population was 27,923. Guilford Historic Town Center is a large historic district encompassing the entire town center of Guilford, Connecticut, in the United States. It is centered on the town green, laid out in 1639, and extends north to Interstate 95, south to Long Island Sound, west to the West River, and east to East Creek. The CDP encompasses the traditional town center area (roughly the area bounded by U.S. Route 1, the Amtrak railroad tracks, and the Branford River) and the area known as Branford Point (the portion of the CDP south of the railroad tracks). 1932 State Highway Renumbering (Connecticut)
In 1932, the Highway Department of the U.S. state of Connecticut (now known as the Connecticut Department of Transportation), decided to completely renumber all its state highways. The only exceptions were the U.S. Highways and some of the New England Interstate Routes. Between 1922 and 1932, Connecticut used a state highway numbering system shared with the other New England states. Major inter-state trunk routes used numbers in the 1-99 range, primary intrastate highways used numbers in the 100-299 range, and secondary state highways used numbers in the 300+ range. In 1926, at the behest of the American Association of State Highway Officials, four of the nine New England Interstate Routes that passed through Connecticut became U.S. Routes. Route 100 is a state highway in Connecticut that connects the town center of East Haven with the Foxon community in the northern part of town. Route description Route 100 lies wholly within the town of East Haven. It begins at US 1 in the eastern part of town and heads west through the town center along Main Street before turning north along North High Street.
