Round Mountain is a census-designated place in Shasta County, California, Shasta County, California, United States. Its population is 160 as of the 2020 census, up from 155 from the 2010 census. Geography Round Mountain is located at (40.799633, -121.943058). According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of , 99.60% of it land and 0.40% of it water. Round Mountain is the geographic center of the Achomawi and Atsugewi or "Pit River" first nation. The "Pit River" tribe has never signed a treaty with the federal government and remains a strong force of opposition to federal control. Round Mountain is the home of Hill Country Health and Wellness Center, one of the most solvent clinics in California. Path 66
California Oregon Intertie (COI), identified as Path 66 by Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC), is a corridor of three roughly parallel 500 kV alternating current power lines connecting the electric grids of Oregon and California. Their combined power transmission capacity is 4800 MW. Two of the power lines run from Malin Substation southeast of Klamath Falls, Oregon to Round Mountain Substation northeast of Redding, California. One of them is owned by Western Area Power Administration, the other by Pacific Gas and Electric and PacifiCorp jointly. These lines are a part of Pacific AC Intertie and were completed in the 1960s. Fountain Fire
The 1992 Fountain Fire was a large and destructive wildfire in the U.S. state of California's Shasta County. After igniting on August 20, the fire burned for 8 days, consuming 63,960 acres and destroying 636 structures, including more than 300 homes. At the time, the Fountain Fire was the third most destructive wildfire in recorded California history (though as of 2022 it no longer ranks among even the top 20 most destructive California wildfires), and at more than $22 million it was then the most expensive fire to contain in recorded California history. POSSLQ ( , plural POSSLQs) is an abbreviation (or acronym) for "Person of Opposite Sex Sharing Living Quarters", a term coined in the late 1970s by the United States Census Bureau as part of an effort to more accurately gauge the prevalence of cohabitation in American households. After the 1980 Census, the term gained currency in the wider culture for a time.
