Rotvær Lighthouse ( no, Rotvær fyr) is a coastal lighthouse in Lødingen Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. The lighthouse sits at the east end of the island of Fugløya, part of dangerous reef at the entrance to the Ofotfjorden, about south of the village of Lødingen. History The tall lighthouse was first lit in 1914. In 1985, the old lighthouse was closed and a new automated, electric fiberglass light was installed near the old tower. The light sits at an elevation of above sea level. The 25,400- candela light is white, red, or green light depending on the viewing direction and it is occulting once every 6 seconds. Lødingen Municipality
Lødingen ( sme, Lodegat) is a municipality in Nordland county in Norway. Lødingen is located on the southeastern corner of the island of Hinnøya, and is part of the traditional district of Ofoten. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Lødingen. The other main part of the municipality is Vestbygda. Lødingen has the nickname "Biketown" because it hosts several annual bicycle races, including "Lofoten Insomnia" and Vestbygd-rittet. Candela
The candela ( or ; symbol: cd) is the unit of luminous intensity in the International System of Units (SI). It measures luminous power per unit solid angle emitted by a light source in a particular direction. Ofotfjorden
Ofotfjord ( or ) is a fjord in Nordland county, Norway. It is an inlet of the Norwegian Sea, located about north of the Arctic Circle. The long Ofotfjord is Norway's 12th longest fjord and it is also the 18th deepest, with a maximum depth of . In the English language and in many historical documents, this fjord is often referred to as the ''Narvik Fjord'' because the town of Narvik is located on the inner shores of the fjord, but this is not an official name of the fjord. Lødingen (village)
Lødingen is the administrative centre of Lødingen Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. The village is located on the southwestern shore of the island of Hinnøya. The village is also located where the southern mouth of the Tjeldsundet strait meets the Vestfjorden. The Norwegian National Road 85 runs through the village and continues on the Bognes–Lødingen ferry route. The village is the business and transportation centre for the municipality. It has the municipal government offices, school, Lødingen Church, as well as a museum. The village has a population (2018) of 1,696 which gives the village a population density of . Lighthouses In Norway
The coast of Norway is 100,915 km long and there have been a total of 212 lighthouses along it, but no more than 154 have ever been operational at the same time. The first, Lindesnes Lighthouse, opened in 1655; the newest Lighthouse, Anda, was finished in 1932. The first Lighthouses were private operations, but in 1821 the government made the Channel and Harbor Inspector responsible for Lighthouses in Norway. A dedicated Lighthouse Administration was set up in 1841. The Lighthouses are today mostly automated and since 1974, run by the Norwegian Coastal Administration. Two lightvessels had been operated along the Norwegian coast. "Enigheden" off Ålesund from 1856 vas replaced with Lepsøyrev Lighthouse in 1879, and "Ildjernsflu" moored off Nesodden from 1914 until it was scrapped in 1968.
