Rosina Lhévinne
Rosina Lhévinne (née Bessie; March 29, 1880 – November 9, 1976) was a Russian pianist and famed pedagogue born in Kyiv, Russian Empire. Early life, education and family Rosina Bessie was the younger of two daughters of Maria (née Katz) and Jacques Bessie, a prosperous jeweller from a Dutch Jewish family who emigrated to the Russian Empire to ply his trade as a diamond merchant. There were violent anti-Semitic riots in Kyiv during her first year, and the Bessies moved to Moscow in 1881 or 1882. The young Rosina began studying piano at the age of six with a teacher in Moscow, where the family had moved shortly after her birth. When her teacher became ill, a family friend suggested that she continue her studies with Josef Lhévinne, a talented student at the Moscow Imperial Conservatory, five years older than Rosina. International Tchaikovsky Competition
The International Tchaikovsky Competition is a classical music competition held every four years in Moscow and Saint Petersburg, Russia, for pianists, violinists, and cellists between 16 and 32 years of age and singers between 19 and 32 years of age. The competition is named after Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. It was a member of the World Federation of International Music Competitions until April 2022, when it was excluded due to the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. The International Tchaikovsky Competition was the first international music competition held in the Soviet Union. Edna Golandsky
Edna Golandsky is a classical music pianist, lecturer and pedagogue of renown. She is a graduate of the Juilliard School, where she studied under Rosina Lhévinne and Adele Marcus. She later studied privately during many years with noted pedagogue Dorothy Taubman, whom she considers her main influence. She has earned wide acclaim throughout the United States and abroad for her extraordinary ability to solve technical problems at the instrument and for her penetrating musical insight. Madeleine (Hsu) Forte (born 20 September 1938) is a Franco-American pianist, recording artist, and Professor Emerita of Piano at the Morrison Center for the Performing Arts at Boise State University. Early life and education Madeleine Forte began her career at a Beethoven festival in Vichy, France. She first studied piano with her aunt, then with master pianists Alfred Cortot and Wilhelm Kempff. Eduardo Delgado
Eduardo Delgado (born October 3, 1943) is an Argentine classical pianist and teacher living in California. Born in Rosario, Argentina, Delgado is a recipient of the Vladimir Horowitz Award and has received grants from the Mozarteum Argentino, Martha Baird Rockefeller, and the Concert Artists Guild. In 1999, he was awarded by UNESCO in Buenos Aires. Delgado has given recitals all over the world, in Europe, Asia, South America and North America. Seth Carlin (February 8, 1945 – July 28, 2016) was an American pianist and fortepianist. A student of Morton Estrin, Jules Gentil, Wilhelm Kempff, and Rosina Lhévinne, Carlin was especially noted for his performances of the music of Schubert. He appeared on French, Swedish, Chinese and German national television and radio and performed as soloist with orchestras including the Boston Pops and St. Louis Symphony under such conductors as Leonard Slatkin and Nicholas McGegan. Kun-woo Paik (born March 10, 1946 in Seoul) is a South Korean pianist. He has performed with multiple orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the BBC Symphony Orchestra, and the Saint Petersburg Philharmonic. Early life Kun-Woo Paik was born in Seoul. He gave his first concert, aged 10, with the Korean National Orchestra, playing Grieg's Piano Concerto. Judith Lang Zaimont (; born November 8, 1945) is an American composer and pianist. Biography Judith Lang Zaimont was born in Memphis, Tennessee. Both Zaimont and her sister, Doris Lang Kosloff, began piano lessons with their mother, Bertha Lang, who was an accomplished pianist and singer. Bertha was very active in the music profession and served as a president of the New York State Music Teachers Association. Judith began lessons at Juilliard at age 12, where she studied piano and theory from 1958-1964. These lessons included piano with Rosina Lhévinne and theory and duo-piano with Ann Hull. Boston Pops Orchestra
The Boston Pops Orchestra is an American orchestra based in Boston, Massachusetts, specializing in light classical and popular music. The orchestra's current music director is Keith Lockhart. Founded in 1885 as an offshoot of the Boston Symphony Orchestra (BSO), the Boston Pops primarily consists of musicians from the BSO, although generally not all of the first-chair players. The orchestra performs a spring season of popular music and a holiday program in December. For the Pops, the seating on the floor of Symphony Hall is reconfigured from auditorium seating to banquet and cafe seating.
