Roshy Augustine
Roshy Augustine (born 20 January 1969) is an Indian politician serving as the Member of the Legislative Assembly (M.L.A.) of the Kerala Legislative Assembly from Idukki since 2001. He is part of the Kerala Congress (M) party and is the current Minister for Irrigation, Command Area Development Authority, Ground Water Department, Water Supply and Sanitation Government of Kerala since 20 May 2021, under Pinarayi Vijayan's second term cabinet. Personal life He was born to Augustine Thomas and Leelamma on 20 January 1969 at Pala. He started his political career from his school level. Pala () is a town and a municipality in Kottayam district of Kerala, India. It is the headquarters of the Meenachil taluk and the Pala Revenue Division. The Left Democratic Front (LDF) is an alliance of left-wing political parties in the state of Kerala, India. It is the current ruling political alliance of Kerala, since 2016. It is one of the two major political alliances in Kerala, the other being Indian National Congress-led United Democratic Front, each of which has been in power alternately for the last four decades. LDF has won the elections to the State Legislature of Kerala in the years 1980, 1987, 1996, 2006, 2016 and had a historic re-election in 2021 where an incumbent government was re-elected for first time in 40 years. 2021 Kerala Legislative Assembly Election
The 2021 Kerala Legislative Assembly election was held in Kerala on 6 April 2021 to elect 140 members to the 15th Kerala Legislative Assembly. The results were declared on 2 May. The election saw the incumbent Left Democratic Front (LDF) retaining power with 99 seats, 8 more than in the previous election, marking the first time that an alliance won consecutive terms in the state since its 1977 election. The United Democratic Front (UDF) won the remaining 41 seats, 6 less than in the previous election. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) was unable to win any seats after losing their lone seat the election. K. Francis George is an Indian politician who is a leader of Kerala Congress which is one among several factions of the Kerala Congress. He was a member of the 13th and the 14th Lok Sabha, representing Idukki constituency of Kerala. He was formerly a leader of the Kerala Congress (M) and that of his former party Janadhipathya Kerala Congress. Political career Prior to the 2014 Indian general election, he left Kerala Congress (M) and created a new party — Janadhipathya Kerala Congress. The 2016 Kerala Legislative Assembly election was held on 16 May 2016 to elect 140 MLAs to the 14th Kerala Legislative Assembly. Voter turnout was 77.53%, up from 75.12% in the previous election.
