Roseburg is a city in the U.S. state of Oregon. It is in the Umpqua River Valley in southern Oregon and is the county seat and most populous city of Douglas County. Founded in 1851, the population was 23,683 at the 2020 census, making it the principal city of the Roseburg, Oregon Micropolitan Statistical Area. The community developed along both sides of the South Umpqua River and is traversed by Interstate 5. Traditionally a lumber industry town, Roseburg was the original home of Roseburg Forest Products, which is now based in nearby Springfield. Natural resources Waterfalls near Roseburg include Susan Creek Falls and Fall Creek Falls. Roseburg's primary industries include timber and tourism, and the region is home to many vineyards and more than 30 wineries. Coldwater, Michigan
Coldwater is a city in Branch County, Michigan, United States. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 10,945. It is the county seat of Branch County, located in the center of the southern border of Michigan. The city is surrounded by Coldwater Township, but is administratively autonomous. History American settlers did not move into the area until around 1830, with many arriving from New York and New England. Coldwater was incorporated as a village in 1837, and then incorporated by the legislature as a city in 1861. It was designated in 1842 as the county seat of Branch County. Ulster County, New York
Ulster County is a county in the U.S. state of New York. It is situated along the Hudson River. As of the 2020 census, the population was 181,851. The county seat is Kingston. The county is named after the Irish province of Ulster. History Founding and formation When part of the New Netherland colony, Dutch traders first called the area of present-day Ulster County "Esopus", a name borrowed for convenience from a locality on the opposite side of the Hudson. The local Lenape indigenous people called themselves Waranawanka, but soon came to be known to the Dutch as the "Esopus Indians" because they were encountered around the settlement known as Esopus. Aaron Rose (pioneer)
Aaron Rose (1813–1899) was an American pioneer of Michigan and Oregon, who founded the city of Roseburg, Oregon. Early years Rose was born in southeastern New York state, in 1813. He had at least one sibling, a brother, Abram. Career After aiding in the pioneer development of Michigan, he left those forests in 1851, traveled the Applegate Trail, and arrived at the junction of Oregon's South Umpqua River and Deer Creek on September 23, 1851. His family and belongings were conveyed along with him in the prairie vehicle of the time, moved by oxen. Here, he settled on a donation claim of from the government, the site which Roseburg now occupies. He built him a clapboard shanty of sufficiently ample dimensions, near the place where the center of the city now is, and engaged in selling to travelers, teamsters and packers, who were very numerous in those days, such things as they needed. Rogue River Wars
The Rogue River Wars were an armed conflict in 1855–1856 between the U.S. Army, local militias and volunteers, and the Native American tribes commonly grouped under the designation of Rogue River Indians, in the Rogue River Valley area of what today is southern Oregon. The conflict designation usually includes only the hostilities that took place during 1855–1856, but there had been numerous previous skirmishes, as early as the 1830s, between European-American settlers and the Native Americans, over territory and resources. Following conclusion of the war, the United States removed the Tolowa people and other tribes to reservations in Oregon and California. In central coastal Oregon, the Tillamook, Siletz and about 20 other tribes were placed with Tolowa people at the Coast Indian Reservation. Fall Creek Falls (Douglas County, Oregon)
Fall Creek Falls, is a three to four drop waterfall located on the North Umpqua River at the west skirt of the Umpqua National Forest, in Douglas County, in the U.S. state of Oregon. It is located in a privileged natural area where the river creates several waterfalls: Susan Creek Falls, Emile Falls, and Grotto Falls are two to five miles away. Access Fall Creek Falls is approximately from the town of Glide, Oregon. Hiking to Fall Creek Falls starts at a trailhead that runs south along a cascading creek. The trailhead is at the left side of Oregon Route 138 as it goes through Umpqua National Forest, and is approximately one mile of gravel surface into the mountain. The trail passes through a narrow crevice in a large boulder, then climbs alongside the creek before approaching the falls. Springfield is a city in Lane County, Oregon, United States. Located in the Southern Willamette Valley, it is within the Eugene-Springfield Metropolitan Statistical Area.
