Roscommon Racecourse is a horse racing venue located in Roscommon, County Roscommon, Ireland, approximately 76 km north east of Galway and 136 km west of Dublin Dublin (; , or ) is the capital and largest city of Ireland. Roscommon
Roscommon (; ) is the county town and the largest town in County Roscommon in Ireland. It is roughly in the centre of Ireland, near the meeting of the N60, N61 and N63 roads. The name Roscommon is derived from Coman mac Faelchon who built a monastery there in the 5th century. The woods near the monastery became known as Ros Comáin (''St. Coman's Wood''). This was later anglicised to Roscommon. Its population at the 2016 census was 5,876. History Roscommon was the homeland of the Connachta dynasty, and included such kingdoms as Uí Maine, Delbhna Nuadat, Síol Muirdeach, and Moylurg. Kilbegnet Novice Chase
The Kilbegnet Novice Chase is a Grade 3 National Hunt novice steeplechase in Ireland which is open to horses aged four years or older. It is run at Roscommon over a distance of about 2 miles and half a furlong (2 miles and 72 yards, or 3,284 metres), and it is scheduled to take place each year in late September or early October. The Lenebane Stakes is a Listed flat horse race in Ireland open to thoroughbreds three-year-olds and older. It is run at Roscommon over a distance of 1 mile 3 furlongs and 175 yards (2,373 metres), and it is scheduled to take place each year on Ladies Day, the first day of Roscommon's July meeting. It is Roscommon's most prestigious flat race. History The name Lenebane is derived from the townland in which Roscommon Racecourse is situated.
