Rosa Primula
''Rosa primula,'' also known as the incense rose, is a species of wild shrub rose that originated in China and Turkestan. Description When full grown, ''R. primula'' will reach a height of 5-6 feet and a spread of 4-5 feet. It is best planted from November-May, and requires full sun and moist, free-draining soil. When it blooms in late spring, it produces small, single yellow flowers, which are followed by reddish-brown hips. The flowers and the foliage are aromatic. ''Rosa primula'' is a thorned species. Its leaves are double serrated and glandular, similar to ''R. ecae'' and ''Rosa foetida, R. foetida,'' and have been described as fern-like. George Albert Boulenger
George Albert Boulenger (19 October 1858 – 23 November 1937) was a Belgian-British zoologist who described and gave scientific names to over 2,000 new animal species, chiefly fish, reptiles, and amphibians. Boulenger was also an active botanist during the last 30 years of his life, especially in the study of roses. Life Boulenger was born in Brussels, Belgium, the only son of Gustave Boulenger, a Belgian public notary, and Juliette Piérart, from Valenciennes. He graduated in 1876 from the Free University of Brussels with a degree in natural sciences, and worked for a while at the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences, Brussels, as an assistant naturalist studying amphibians, reptiles, and fishes. He also made frequent visits during this time to the ''Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle'' in Paris and the British Museum in London. Rosa Foetida
''Rosa foetida'', known by several common names, including Austrian briar, Persian yellow rose, and Austrian copper rose, is a species of rose, native to the foothills of the Caucasus Mountains in Georgia. It has yellow flowers with a scent which some find objectionable. Since there were no yellow roses native to Europe, its introduction from Persia was an important addition to the cultivation of roses, and ''R. foetida'' is now an important contributor to the stock of cultivated roses. Name The rose is named for its smell--''foetida'' is Latin for "having a bad smell"—which is reminiscent of boiled linseed oil, a smell which some find objectionable. However, according to others "the smell is not all that bad." List Of Rosa Species
There is significant disagreement over the number of true rose species. Some species are so similar that they could easily be considered variations of a single species, while other species show enough variation that they could easily be considered to be different species. Lists of rose species usually show more than 320. The numbers 320 to 350 are the figures accepted by most botanists, but as Bailey has pointed out the extreme lumpers Bentham and Hooker only allowed for thirty species, while the extreme splitter Michel Gandoger allowed 4266 species just in Europe and western Asia.
